Last night I was doing my normal internet search for new designers and cool clothes that cater to all sizes of curves from size 2 and up. As I searched, I came across this website called Carmakoma.com, which is a european plus size clothing line that starts at a size 12.
I have to say that the designs were young, trendy, and chic. Majority of the clothes were modeled with leggings, which can throw you off a little bit if you are trying to imagine what they would look like without the leggings. My only disappointment was that most of the clothing line was black and grey with a few sprinkles of purple and pink items.

CarmaKoma designers are Danish girls Angelica Weiss &  Heidie Lekke who have worked with other brands and designers such as Remix and O by Isabell Kristensen. The interesting thing about the two designers are the fact that they are not curvy women, however, they have managed to produce a trendy and chic clothing line for women with curves.

The brand is exclusively sold at the Carmakoma website.

Sizes are labeled S-L which in plus size language means sizes 12-22. As you are placing your order complete their perfect size form. This helps you find your perfect fit by inputing your body measurements.

They also have a blog and online magazine.
I think the purple wrap dress is very demure and chic. It looks good with the leggings for Fall and I can only imagine how sexy it could be in the summer with some gold sexy 4 inch heels.

Check out a couple of my picks below.  What do you think about the site?

Side Note: Is it me or has anyone noticed that even in the plus size industry you see more caucasion girls than black girls, which is the same problem they are having in the fashion industry now. Have you noticed the same thing? If so, how doyou feel about this?

I have to say that I am loving the whole leggings phenom. Are people even wearing pants anymore? Yesterday, I was surfing through Essence.com and I came across this picture of the british sensation Estelle. I think she has a unique and edgy look that works for her body. I love the idea of the metallic silver jacket with leggings. It gives her such a sexy rocker chic look.

Check out the options below to recreate her look. The metallic silver jacket is a great look for fall.

To show off your curves you should go for a fitted style jacket, like a motorcycle jacket and try lame fabric leggings.

From top:Gray motorcycle jacket Jessica London, sizes 14-28,Metallic silver suede jacket, Newport News, sizes 2-18. Lame leggings, Torrid.com, Silver blazer, Newport News

Victoria's Secret model Jessica White looks great in her short black satin tube dress. Want to recreate her look for your curves? Go for an empire waist with a straight skirt. If you want to hide a large lower half go for an empire pleated waist dress that is fuller in the hips. A red clutch in crocodile or suede will complete the look. Always keep in mind that when a satin fabric is too tight it will show all the lumps and bumps that come with having curves, so, please make sure the dress fits you properly on the largest part of your body.

Pleated waist tube dress, casual plus.com, sizes 1x-3x, Love Tease pocket skirt @macys.com,sizes 3-13, Torrid straight skirt dress, sizes 10-32.

Are you sick of the whole leggings look or are you hoping for it to be around for the next couple of seasons?

Hold up, stop the presses. I must have been under a rock. I recently found out from another great blog called Beauty Plus Power.blogspot.com that top designers Badgley Mishka has a plus size evening line at Bloomingdales. Yes, the same BadgleyMishka that dresses Halle Berry and countless other celebrities. I know, you don't have to say it, WTF!

Check out this black sleeveless one shoulder floor gown. Gorgeous! The dresses start at $250 and they come in sizes 14-20.

I just have two questions, what took them so long and who's next in line to start designing for the double digits?

What are your thoughts, and if you are a plus size curvy girl what other designers would you like to see cross over. I say Diane Von Furstenburg needs to just jump on the band wagon, she makes one of the most flattering dresses in the world and she stops at a 12. Oh, wait, she did add a 14 to the line.

Let me know your thoughts.

Another popular trend for Fall is sequin dresses. Curvy celebrities like Jessica Simpson and Beyonce have been seen in this Nicole Miller sequin dress that retails for about $475.

To recreate this look, check out http://www.applebottoms.com/. They have a dress with similar details as the Nicole Miller dress. The Apple Bottoms sequin dress nips in at the waist and is straight on the hips. Many Fashionistas would telly curvy girls to avoid anything that is straight on full hips. I disagree with that, because I think full hips look sexy in straight dresses. Especially when they nip in at the waist. It gives a curvy girl that Jessica Rabbit effect. A dress like this is meant to show off your curves, so, you must take on a diva like attitude to pull this off.

The great thing about Apple Bottoms is that they have the same clothes in women sizes and plus sizes.

Nicole Miller $475, Apple Bottoms, $44.98, sizes S-L, 1X-3X

If you are self conscious about your arms you may want to go for this sequin dress from Apple Bottoms, $39.98 sizes S-L, 1X-3X

Apple Bottoms, who knew?

This year there were very few curvy celebs at the Emmy's. The celebs with curves that showed up kind of disappointed me in some of their wardrobe choices.

Chandra Wilson from Grey's Anatomy looked nice in her dress. I did not like the floral design at the bottom of the dress. It looked a little Jessica McClintock. The top of the dress was a little too pointy for me. It would have looked better if the edges were rounded. Her overall look was nice, but a few tweaks to the dress would have made her look better.

My two favorite picks of the night were Kim Kardashion and Nene Leakes from the Real Housewives of Atlanta. Although Kim has lost some weight the white one sleeve dress she chose was perfect to show off her small waist and highlight her round hips.

Nene's black sparkled dress gave a very nice slimming effect on her statuesque frame. The cap sleeves flattered her slim arms while the darted seams on the front of the dress slenderized her waist.

Now, what was Shar Jackson thinking. First of all why was she there? This dress was all wrong for her body. Shar has recently gained some weight and she did not do a good job showcasing her new curvy shape. The hair looks like she is in the 7th grade, the dress was too mature for her. Frankly, it was old lady looking. The sad thing about it is that her people probably told her she looked nice. Curvy girls out there. This is a BIG NO NO!

I would love to hear your thoughts.

The weather is getting cooler and fashion week is over. It's time to put away the Summer dresses and break out the sweater dresses. The great thing about sweater dresses is that it gives you a sexy understated look. Sweater dresses are a highlighter for curves. It really displays your assets in a sexy alluring way. It's also such an easy dress to put on. Just pull it over your head and you're ready to go.

Especially for us curvy girls, a sweater dress in the right cut and color can send your self esteem sky high. Checkout Kim Kardashian in a fitted silver turtleneck sweater dress. Kim is a  petite girl, but she has a very curvy shape. This dress looks great on her.

For those of you looking to emulate this look you may not want to go as tight if you have a little pouch in the stomach area. It takes a whole lot of confidence and a couple of crunches to pull Kim's look off.

If you're feeling bold try a sweater dress in a pink or purple hue for that stand out look.

Purple Old Navy dress, $36.50, sizes XS-XXL, Pink Dereon dress, $44.97, sizes 1X-3X.

.

If you are looking for something that is work appropriate yet still young. Try an A-line or empire waist cut.

Grey Calvin Klein dress, $158,sizes 1X-3X, Grey Isaac Mizrahi dress @Target, $27.99, sizes XS-XXL

Green Rachel Roy dress, $129, sizes XS-L, Dereon Dress, $79, sizes S-XL

If your looking for something to wear out for dinner with the girls or a date, try a dress that is chic with a folded collar and pockets at the sides or one that has a low v-neck with a chic design.

For many of you the weekend will start in just a few hours. When the weekends roll around I like to go home order takeout and read through my magazines. I do this for three reasons. One, if I am planning on shopping on Saturday I like to read through my magazines to see the editors picks from retail chain stores. Two, I read them for inspiration when I know I should not be shopping. I like to get some new ideas to get the most mileage out of  my old wardrobe. Three, I like to read the career and wealth articles. They are very informative and some of the suggestions really work.

With all that being said, today I am taking you inside the October issue of Glamour magazine. Glamour is definitely one of my top five favorite magazines. They offer a great variety of real life fashion, runway fashion, work, sex, and they have really good articles on what's going on with women in other countries.

Fashion & Shopping
Check out pages 117-146 titled 8 Rules to be a Smarter Chicer Shopper.  If you are shopping for a new wardrobe or just a couple of pieces these pages offer you detailed information on how to organize your closet, take stock of what you already have, and what you should be buying.

One of my favorite rules in this article happens to be Rule No. 1, I will know what I own before I shop. I  definitely abide by this rule.  Every season I take a lonely Friday night and try on everything in my closet to see what fits and what I still like. Whatever I don't like, I give away and then I make a list of what I need and what I want. Trust me, doing this has saved me tons of money and made me realize how many cute items I had in my closet. I was wondering where were these items on those days I could not find anything to wear?

Also check out The Secrets of Style Confidence on pages 276-283 an article written by Jenny Feldman.

The article features designers like Jason Wu and Brian Reyes both who have designed clothes for two famous curvy women, First Lady Michelle Obama and Ugly Betty's America Ferrera.
And of course don't forget to check out Glamour's Do's and Dont's. They are truly hilarious. This month is the Do's and Dont's of wearing purple.

I have always had a love hate relationship with Baby Phat. The designs are either really good or really bad. There is no in between. One thing I do commend Kimora Lee Simmons on is that she has always embraced small and large curves in her collection with her juniors and plus size lines. One of my pet peeves with this line is that you can never find the runway stuff in stores. What is that about?

Check out the 2010 Spring Show and tell me your thoughts on her new collection. There are some hits and misses.

What do you think?

One of the great things about Fall fashion is prints. One of my favorite prints is the  geometric print. It truly hides a multitude of sins (In the words of Wendy Williams). Large geometric shapes flatter larger curves and small geometric shapes flatter smaller curves. However, that is not to say that if you have larger curves you can't wear smaller prints. The secret of flattering prints lies in the print design, fabric, and color.  Sometimes if you have larger curves and you get a large print in a chiffon style fabric it can actually make you look bigger. Most clothes that are made out of chiffon have an airy loose look, which can make someone with large curves look sloppy. Smaller prints do not always look good on small frames. Too small prints that look busy can make a small curvy frame look shapeless or it can magnify curves.
Celebs like Keri Hilson are rocking geometric prints in a sexy way. The medium size print is highlighting Keri's small curves, while the plunging neck line draws the eye up and takes away from the busy print. You can always alter a busy print buy wearing a blazer over it.
Check out these geometric prints:
Target top, $16.99, Sizes 1X-4X, Calvin Klein Tie Neck blouse, $69, sizes XS-XL
For work these two tops offer style and flattery. The green all over circle print keeps the eyes moving and the color will flatter most skin complexions.
Nine West Dress, $59.99 sizes 2-14, INC Dress, $89, sizes 0X-3X
The geometric print mixed with flowers gives this dress an interesting look and makes the waist look smaller. The larger print dress gives an all over sexy and sophisticated look.
