Top plus size model Crystal Renn is featured in the February issue of Glamour magazine.

Photos taken from Glamour.com

Crystal Renn's star just keeps rising, she is on her way to becoming a household name-if she isn't already. She is truly opening doors for plus size women. Feature after feature she continually takes beautiful high fashion pictures and her curves are always shapely and sexy. Sometimes in the back of my mind, I wonder why we don't see more african american plus size models featured in high fashion spreads?

Faith 21 and Forever 21 Spring collections.

I am loving all the typical spring colors, polka dot, and floral prints. What I am noticing is the lack of girly pieces for the Faith 21 line. At first glance my eyes were more drawn to the Forever 21 line (the smaller models). The blue polka dot top and the floral skirts, now that's cute. When you look at the plus size model in the Faith 21 clothes- I can't help but feel a little disappointed. Don't get me wrong she looks cute and all, but, I can't say I am necessarily craving what she has on. A striped cardigan and rolled up denim shorts are a little blahzay compared to the other looks. This is one of my pet peeves with brands that do offer plus size clothing. They are never as cute as the straight sizes.

Update: Oops, I stand corrected. There is a cute polka dot dress in the plus size line

 What do you think?
One of my favorite shapes on a woman is the pear shape. I used to always wish I had a pear shape opposed to an hourglass shape, because I never liked having large breasts. Pear shape women are usually smaller at the top and larger at the bottom. You can see their hips coming from a mile away. I remember back in highschool when my first job was working at McDonalds, I had a coworker whose shape I admired everyday. She had this small little upper body and her hips would always knock over the buns as she would move around in the kitchen making big macs. She would always wear tight jeans to show off her hips and I used to think, I could never wear tight jeans with these hips.

She would walk around with confidence as the male customers would drool over her. At that time I was insecure about my large hips and whenever I saw her, I would gain more confidence about the size of my hips, because she would wear her hips with pride. As we got to know each other, we would make jokes about our hips and everytime we worked the same shift, we would say, what's up pencil hips and then laugh about it.

I am talking about hips today because a popular trend for 2009 are pleated skirts and dresses. You have seen curvy celebrities like Beyonce wearing this trend. Check her out in two different looks

The red dress gives Beyonce a kangaroo pouch. You may not want to go this extreme if you are trying ot pull this look off in your everyday life.

The white dress is perfect. It has a hint of the trend and it actually looks flattering on the hips.

Pleats on hips can be very tricky. It can either add volume or not lay properly. If you have full large hips. I suggest trying this trend in an A-line silhouette.

If you are sick of A-line skirts and want to take this trend full on then you may need to go a size up if the pleats don't lay on your hips properly.

Gabourey Sidibe dazzled in a long blue goddess like gown at the 2010 National Board of Review Awards Gala in NYC last night. For the next couple of months we will be seeing Gabourey in a myriad of gowns for award season. The blue gown that she is wearing compliments her chocolate skin and the makeup and hair accentuates her almond shape eyes. I can't wait to see what she will be wearing to the Golden Globes.
Leopard print is one of the most classic prints of all time. It will never go out of style. Trendy and wallet friendly clothing store Forever 21 has put a cute and colorful spin on leopard print by mixing pink and blue. This colorful version is sure to add an element of fun to your wardrobe.

Teen clothing store Wet Seal will now be carrying Kimora Lee's Baby Phat line in sizes S-3X and sizes 1-24.

Check out Wet Seal:

Spring will be approaching us soon and I can't wait. As I searched the web, I couldn't help but notice all the navy and gray pieces that were showing up as new arrivals on some of my favorite shopping sites. A classic color combination such as this can give your wardrobe a fresh look. To spice up your look, you can pair a navy colored top with gray leggings or throw a navy blazer over a gray dress. Don't forget about accessories. A tall pair of gray boots in soft leather can create a standout look. For the evening you could throw on a pair of navy sequin heels and dance the night away.

Check out my picks (there is something for every size):

Last week I posted a pic of Glee star Amber Riley in a cute blue dress. Well, I found out where she purchased her dress when I was reading the Dorothy Perkins blog. You can purchase the Ink notch dress at Dorothy Perkins. The dress comes in US sizes 2-18 and it comes in teal as well. Check out the Dorothy Perkins blog for more looks:

Finally H&M responds to why the 34th street store was cutting up clothes and throwing them away, but, the response sounds rehearsed.

Check it out:

“It will not happen again,” said Nicole Christie, a spokeswoman for H & M in New York. “We are committed 100 percent to make sure this practice is not happening anywhere else, as it is not our standard practice.”

Ms. Christie said it was H & M’s policy to donate unworn clothing to charitable groups. She said that she did not know why the store on 34th Street was slashing the clothes, and that the company was checking to make sure that none of its other stores were doing so.

In my opinion the response comes a little too late. Once they were contacted by the NYT a general response should have been made immediately and then a more detailed response should have come atleast a few hours later. They should have called the store manager at 34th street to get their side of the story and then damage control should have been in full effect. The NYT tried to reach H&M 10 times and they received no response. Obviously, there must be some truth to this and they were just caught with their pants down.

Not only do I believe this will happen again, I believe they will try to find a better way to destroy the clothes that doesn't leave a trail. The bottom line to me is that someone at corporate had to give them the okay to cut up and throw away the clothes. Why would the store do this on their own?

Let me know your thoughts?
Gabourey Sidibe in  Harpers Bazaar

Now that it's award season we will be seeing celebrities from all of the top movies of 2009 grace the covers of numerous magazines as well as snagging feature stories. So don't be surprised if you are on Precious overload. In the February issue of Harpers Bazaar Gabourey Sidibe snags a feature spot in this high fashion magazine.

When asked how does she stay so confident an evolved, the bubbly 26 year old tells Harpers Bazaar that:

"It came late, too late in my life," she says. "Something like 21. I just know that I was tired. I was tired of thinking less of myself because others did."

She adds:

"People always ask me, 'You have so much confidence. Where did that come from?' It came from me. One day I decided that I was beautiful, and so I carried out my life as if I was a beautiful girl. I wear colors that I really like, I wear makeup that makes me feel pretty, and it really helps. It doesn't have anything to do with how the world perceives you. What matters is what you see. Your body is your temple, it's your home, and," she chuckles, "you must decorate it."

I said it before and I must say it again. When you embrace your body and all its flaws, you will lead a happier life. Make no mistake, Gabby is very aware that she is overweight, but, it doesn't stop her from living her life and looking her best.

I look forward to being on Precious and Ms. Sidibe overload. We need to see a young woman like this who has such cofidence, I hope it will make us all become more at peace with ourselves.

The curves were all out at last nights People's Choice award. Checkout who put their best curves forward:

Queen Laifah never misses a step. The host of last nights event looked radiant in white and dazzled in a black chiffon dress.

Glee star Amber Riley kept it simple and cute in blue while Clean House host Niecey Nash sported a pink one shoulder goddess gown.

Camille from the Bernie Mac show was va-va- voom in a Herve Ledger bondage dress while Mariah Carey looked heavenly in a white sweet heart neckline gown.
