Hey Curvy girls,

The past few days have been super sunny and nice in my hometown NYC. I love the beginning of spring because the air is so fresh and people are nicer. Most importantly, I love the spring weather because it gives me a chance to wear one of my favorite trench coats.

Three years ago, I found this really great DKNY ( Donna Karan is one of my favorite designers) bright red trench coats at Century 21 in Brooklyn for $80. When I saw the price tag I couldn't believe they were selling this great quality trench for $80 marked down from about $200.

Once I bought this coat, I never bought another trench for the past three years. This coat was a star on it's own, I needed to wear it everyday. So, today I just wanted to share my favorite trench coat with you.
Since the red trench gets dirty so fast (NYC transit), this year I decided to purchase another one to hold me down until I get the ASOS trench I posted up last week. The Old Navy trench is just a classic double breasted khaki trench, nothing spectacular. I don't shop in Old Navy often, but, when I do, I try to go for the basics, this way I don't have to worry about seeing every Harriet and Jane in the same thing.
I also checked out a few other trench coats on line for those of you who are looking for a new trench coat.

About a month ago I was contacted to do a review on a book called, "How To Never Look Fat Again," written by New York Times Bestselling author of How Not To Look Old Charla Krupp. At first I thought oh boy, here we go, another book telling us curvy girls that all we should wear is monochromatic looks and a-line skirts. Just to see if I was wrong or right, I decided to read it and see what Charla Krupp had to say.

Who is Charla Krupp
Charla Krupp has done more than 100 style segments on The Today Show and she has appeared on Good Morning America, Oprah, The View, Dateline NBC, and has been a regular on The E! Channel and Home Shopping Network. She was beauty director of Glamour, editor of In Style, beauty editor for People's Style Watch and executive editor of Shop Etc. Magazine. Her writing has appeared in The New York Times, InStyle, Glamour, Shop Etc., People, Cosmopolitan, The Chicago Tribune, USA Today, and Time. Currently, Charla writes a monthly fashion column for More Magazine called Fashion For Grownups.

My Review:

Whether you dress to look thin or not, this book offers pretty good advice on how to achieve your best look with clothes. I loved the chapter titles like arm flap, buddha belly, and muffin top & back fat. As women whether big or small we can all identify with that body part that we wish was a little smaller or more toned.  For me I am always thinking about my round stomach, which is why I went straight to the buddah belly chapter. The book is extremely detailed with advice and guides on what types of clothes to buy based on your problem areas. Charla even goes as far as to showing you what's the best hair style for various face shapes. The book breaks down different looks into two categories, High Fat vs. No Fat. In the breakdown she uses a model and puts her in unflattering clothes to showcase the problem areas and then the same model is styled in a different outfit that makes her look slimmer.

I think the advice in this book is truly genuine. Charla takes the time to share her personal struggles with trying to lose weight and realized that sometimes dieting is not the only answer when it comes to looking pounds thinner in your clothes. There are so many women out there that are uncomfortable with their bodies and are waiting to lose weight to dress better or think that you have to be skinny in order to look good in your clothes. Charla is offering another outlet to look and feel your best besides dieting like crazy. Some of the advice given is debatable in my opinion. In one section of the book, she talks about women with big butts. She has a list of things that they should stay away from and on that list was one of my favorite things, and that is skinny jeans. She says, "Skinny jeans are for skinny models. They do nothing to accommodate a real woman's curves." Sorry, but, I have to disagree. The RIGHT pair of skinny jeans will accentuate and make your curves look spectacular. It's a good thing she started the big gooty chapter off by saying if you love and embrace your big booty then do the opposite of everything I say.

I think this book is great for women who don't understand their body shape or feel like their clothes doesn't represent who they truly are or want to look like. There are tons of handy dandy lists that help you figure out the different types of fabric and cuts you should be wearing for your problem areas. There are little sections that tell you what to wear if you want to look thinner by tonight, how not to look fat in evening wear, and she even gives advice for women with thicker calves and wide feet. Much of the advice is easy to follow and will help you eliminate items in your wardrobe that really don't work for you. Although the book is titled, "How Not To Look Fat,"  it offers so much more. Besides glossy pictures of celebrities in their best and worst outfits, I think the books main purpose is to get you feeling better about your body no matter your size and I can appreciate that.

In preparation of this review, Stylish Curves wanted to get a curvy girls point of view and asked some facebook fans whether or not they dressed to look slim. Here is what a few said:

Shaakira says: I dress to make my figure look flattering. I'm smaller at the top and larger at the bottom. I'm 5'10 and its not easy to buy jeans. I like jeans that are fitted. Wet seal stretch skinny jeans are long and fit me well.

Tracey says: I dress to accentuate the parts of the body that I do like. I am 5'8, larger at the top, and smaller at the bottom. I like to wear clothes that highlight my breasts, as well as my legs.

Shalonda says: I shop for clothes that looks good. I wore alot of cute moo moos in the summer and they definitely didn't make me look smaller lol

Hey curvy girls,

In the March issue of Elle magazine, creative director Joe Zee (one of my favorite stylists) styled the cast of Glee in some of spring's new styles. Check out how he styled fellow curvy girl Amber Riley.

As usual she looks awesome. I love the way Joe Zee styles because he always mixes a classic piece with something edgy. This outfit accentuates her hips and her bust line, while giving her an hour glass figure.

You can check out the Glee cast video here:

Last week fellow curvy girl Jessica Simpson was out and about promoting her new show "The Price Of Beauty" which airs on March 15th on VH1.

What do you think of her outfits and which one do you like better?

Today we are fashionated by fellow curvy girl Wendy Williams. We love the pink ruffled neck dress, but, we think the hair takes away from the beauty of the dress. It would have been nice to see her with a shorter wig or maybe her hair pinned up.

Do you think the dress looks better with her long wig or do you think a shorter style would have been better

Hey curvy girls,

This week was bridal week and I had a whole bunch of posts planned, but, since it's tax time, my office has been super busy, so, I was unable to execute my plans for posts for the curvy bride. Since it is wedding weekend I thought I would share a few gowns to help that curvy girl out there searching for her dream dress.

I will be posting more wedding stuff throughout the weekend.

Enjoy!

Hey curvy girls,
Yesterday, I wrote about the Glamour shoot featuring plus size model Crystal Renn and the two Victoria Secret and Sports Illustrated Models Alessandra and Brooklyn. I found a new pic of the trio in white bikinis. Check it out.

Last night I came across some great curvy girl news while reading Stylelist. Crystal Renn is the hottest plus size model in the world and right now she is about to become even hotter. According to Stylelist and WWD.com Crystal Renn will be covering the June issue of Glamour magazine with Victoria's Secret model, Alessandra Ambrosio and Sports Illustrated model Brooklyn Decker.

According to WWD.com-WWD has learned that Matthias Vriens-McGrath shot Alessandra Ambrosio, Brooklyn Decker and Crystal Renn on the Caribbean island over the weekend for the cover of Glamour’s June issue. Judging from some TwitPics posted by Decker and Ambrosio, the theme of the shoot involved fun in the sun, with the trio lounging in swimsuits and showing plenty of skin.

I was already a fan of Glamour magazine and appreciated them for always showing real women whether they were a size 2 or 22. I am even more excited that there is a possibility that Crystal will be in a swimsuit next to fairly slim well known models and I know her curves are going to shine. I can't wait to see more pics.

I went to check out Alessandra's twitter pics and she posted the following picks in St. Bart

What are your thoughts about Crystal Renn on the cover of Glamour with Alessandra and Brooklyn, are you excited?
Fellow curvy girl America Ferrera was spotted at the New York Premiere of her new movie "Our Family Wedding." I think America looks young and flirty in a  sweet heart neckline glitter dress and peep toe pumps.

What do you think of her look? "Is she working it" or is it "Back to the drawing board?"

Hey curvy girls,
Today I was cruising the ASOS site and found this super cute mac jacket. I love the pale pink color. It has corseted detail on the back and flares out at the hip. You know, I will be ordering one this week.

It comes in both Misses and Plus Sizes. I truly love when a clothing company caters to all sizes and offers the same styles in all sizes.

Hey curvy girls,
I am so excited about the 50 degree weather that NYC is receiving now. Finally, a break from the snow and the freezing temperatures. I decided to wear a flirty ruffle skirt today to the office. I saw this black & white striped skirt on the Faith21 site and thought it was pretty cute. I chose to pair it with a black blazer to make it office appropriate.

So many people think if you are extra curvy on the bottom that you should stick to simple cuts and designs because it draws attention. I think that you should go with what looks good. Always dress according to how you are feeling.

You know, I can't go anywhere without a pop of color, so, I had to throw on my burgundy suede platform pumps to make it standout.

What I'm wearing:
Blazer: Gap
Tank: Old Navy
Skirt: Faith21
Shoes: Nine West
Earrings: Century 21

Hey curvy girls:

Sunday I was on my way home from Jersey and on the Brooklyn R train I spotted this casually dressed cute curvy girl. I kept staring at her because she had this head full of long curly hair and such a cute face. I just had to go over to her and ask to take her picture. Luckily she allowed me to. I thought she had on a great weekend outfit for shopping and errands.

Since the weather in NYC is starting to warm up she layered a maroon colored vest over a gray cardigan paired with a white scarf, leggings and grey flat boots.

What do you guys think about her outfit?
Hey curvy girls,

Last night all the curvy girls must have had the same thing on their minds when it came to what they were going to wear to the Oscars. Almost all of our favorite curvy girls showed up in blue. I must say that Jennifer Hudson and Gabourey Sidibe looked stunning last night.

Stylish Curves congratulates Mo'Nique on her Oscar win. She truly deserved it.
