Hey curvy girls,
Stylish curves received it's first celebrity fashion find request a few weeks ago from Asha one of our readers.

Here's what Asha asked us to do:
hey savonne, i'm relatively new to your blog so i've been going through older posts. i came across the pic of amber riley at the sag awards. do you know who designed her dress or where i can get it?

Hey Asha-Amber Riley wore a Tadashi Shoji Spring 2010 dress for the SAG Awards. The dress retails for around $270-$300. Tadashi is a designer who caters to both plus and missy sizes. You can check out the collection at Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdales

Curvy girl hater alert!
Hey curvy girls,
For every successful moment, there is a hater waiting in the wings to tear down your achievements.

According to Stylelist.com french fashion blogger Garance Dore says the current plus size craze is a gimmick and plus size women are unhealthy.

Here's what she told the Australian Associated Press:
"I think it's too much and almost naive of the fashion industry, because it would be nice in a few years that the idea of different body shapes is normal, but right now it's not quite there yet," she reportedly said.
"It should not be such a big deal to show women with different bodies, but sometimes it's treated like a bit of joke, or for shock, like the plus-size models on the runway in the UK fashion week."

"It's not such a good thing to show plus-size because it's not really physically healthy and not always flattering to fashion," she sniffed.

What I Have To Say:
Here we go again. I guess she forgot to add M.D. to the end of her name, because, she must be a doctor in order to determine if a plus size woman is physically healthy or unhealthy. I think it is a big deal to show different bodies because that's what the world is made up of. Everyone is not rail thin or even curvy. Women come in all shapes in sizes and I think fashion is finally starting to recognize that. Fashion has shown unrealistic bodies for years, so, yes it is a shock when magazines like French Elle, Vogue and V take the time and money to put the spotlight on plus size. We live in this world too. We shop and buy fashion magazines too. Our money is just as good as our slimmer counterparts, why wouldn't the fashion world be crazy about us.
I think she may be a little upset that the walking hanger, no, excuse me, heroine chic movement is over.

Let's just get used to it curvy girls, we will always have haters.

What are your thoughts on her comments about curvy girls?
Hey curvy girls,
Today we are introducing our new beauty feature. A curvy girl not only likes her curves to be stylish, but, she also, likes her make-up to be just as stylish and flawless. We tapped an old college buddy to give us the scoop on what's hot in make-up.
This is Anishea with all the makeup goodies behind her.

Anishea is from Brooklyn, NY and works for a very prominent make-up artist in the beauty industry. She likes her make-up just as fly as she does her clothes, so, I thought who better to keep my curvy girls up on the latest than her.

Check out the Top 5 Items In Her Beauty Bag:

1. MASCARA- Nothing like mascara, I don’t even need shadow. Mascara alone can make my eyes pop. I use MaxFactor False Lash Effect!! It’s not sold in the USA anymore. I am very sad my friends have to bring it back from the UK for me.

CoverGirl LashBlast Fusion
Lancome Hypnose Drama is my second fav. It fans out my lashes for a high drama look.

 2. LIP BALM/ LIP Gloss- Lips should always be moisturized. Simple drug store Blistex, or Vaseline can do the trick. I prefer to keep my puckers minty and with a tint of color.

CoverGirl WetSlicks Amazemint is the SHIZNIT (superb) my color is No Care Bare

 3. BRONZER gives anyone a nice glow. Even if you can’t go on vacation, a simple bronzer can give you that Bahama Mamma Caribbean Glow

 4. BLUSH in moderation. Too much can make you look cheap. Nars gives my cheeks the big O.

NARS Orgasm Blush
 5. EYELINER can take your simple day look into night. You can blend eyeliner to make a smoky eye or draw on bodacious wings to give a vixen vibe.

YSL EYE PENCIL
Okay curvy girls, that's it for Anishea's top 5 in her beauty bag. She did a great job. Check back tomorrow for her tips on beauty basics.

NARS Eyeliner Stylo ( teal blue color is Wicked)

What do you guys think of her picks? Would you like to see more beauty on this blog?

Hey curvy girls,
It looks like we are in the spotlight again. As I was reviewing my daily blog reads I came across some photos of Crystal Renn in French Vogue, Amber Riley in her Madonna gear for Glee tonight, and I also saw that the blog Jezebel actually decided to do a little highlight on plus bloggers and fashion.

Peep the flicks below:

What a week for curvy girls!
Hey curvy girls, I had an awesome weekend. As a proud Brooklynite I went down to visit the plus size resale store ReDress NYC in the Boreum Hill section of Brooklyn. If you don't know about ReDress you can take a look at their blog at ReDress NYC. They are the only plus size resale store in NYC that sells vintage and current plus size clothing in sizes 14 and up. They offer a great selection of sizes and budget friendly prices. This past weekend they hosted a shopping event with Plus Model Magazine. Deb the owner was gracious enough to allow Stylish Curves to come in and shoot a little video of some of the new things that had in store. This is Stylish Curves 1st video, so please excuse some of the mistakes and constant blinking of my eyes.

Sorry guys-the video is not showing up well. Needs more editing.

This RESALE store is not like any other and they had some awesome trendy yet modern clothes that fit like a dream. Here are some of the dresses I tried on.

This is the outfit I wore for the video.

Hey curvy girls,
My apologies for the slow posting. I have been super swamped with work. If you have been craving some stylish curvyness take a look at Glee Star Amber Riley. She looks MAJOR in a chic black and white ensemble. If you have been following me for awhile you know that I always say to spice up a simple outfit, all it takes is a printed standout shirt and some fly heels to take the outfit from snooze to OOOOOHH! (I know, I'm so cheesy) Amber looks great in this striped black & white dress with burgundy pumps. This is something I would definitely rock.

Hey curvy girls,
One of the reasons that I love when designers go to QVC or HSN is for the variety of sizes that they offer. If you are a QVC fan, check out international and target budget line designer Erin Fetherston's line on QVC tomorrow . The fun and flirty designer offers some really cute pieces for curvy girls. The designs are budget friendly and available in sizes XS-3X. For more information go to QVC

Hey curvy girls,
I found a really cool site that caters to the curvy girl. Plush Boutique is based in Atlanta and now has an online site where you can purchase plus size apparel in sizes 12 and up from some of your favorite brands.
On their site they carry everything from Monif C., Kiyonna, and Igigi.

They also carry the transgender friendly shoe line Le Dame footwear which comes in extended sizes for those girls who wear a size 11 and up. They are offering a 10% coupon on orders that are $50 or more. Check out their Facebook page for more info and their website at Plush Boutique

I recently became a fan of theirs on Facebook and discovered these cute dresses on their photos page.

Hey curvy girls,
Thanks so much for entering in the Forever 21 giveaway. The winner for the giveaway is

Asha
When asked how does she embrace her curves Asha said-"honestly, i just recently started embracing my curves by wearing clothes that showcase my brickhouseness instead of hiding behind sizes and cuts that were way too big and loose."

Thanks Asha, hopefully this gift certificate can help you to continue embracing your curves in a stylish way. I remember the first time I realized that my curves were beautiful and from then on I vowed to never wear shapeless clothing again.

Please send in a pic from your Forever 21 purchase when you get it.

Hey curvy girls,

Are you enjoying the unusual warm weather today? I am. Since it is super sunny today, I decided to wear one of my many bright colored dresses. I bought this dress at Banana Republic on the sale rack for about $25 almost 2 years ago. It has carried me through numerous weight losses and weight gains and manages to still make me look and feel pretty good. My favorite part of this dress is the billowy sleeves that tie. I can wear this dress with so many pairs of shoes, but, today, I rocked my BCBG Girls multi colored pumps.

Since I work in the finance industry, I try to keep the office wear simple and chic. The one thing that I don't keep simple at the office is my footwear. My heels are normally 3.5 or higher and have some sort of crazy design to them. I'm quite sure, I have worn some questionable heels to the office. Lol!

Trying to do a close-up of my earrings.

I promise to work on some better poses. I haven't been catching up on my ANTM lately.

What I'm Wearing:

Banana Republic Dress
BCBG Shoes
H&M Earrings
Bracelet-Garage Sale

Hey curvy girls,
I was catching up on my monthly magazine reads and came across some great curvy girl denim news while reading People Style Watch. DKNY has a new plus size denim line with sizes ranging from 14W-24W. I said it before and I'll say it again, Donna Karan is one of my all time favorite designers along with Michael Kors. I feel like she has always made clothes for a curvy body. Even before other brands, she was carrying sizes 14 and 16. Last year she debuted her DKNYC line and included plus sizes and here she is again thinking about her curvy girls with this new plus size denim line. Let's just hope they fit well.

Check out a few pieces. All available at Zappos.

Need jeans that make you look 10 pounds lighter in 10 seconds, then checkout the Miraclebody jean. The Miraclebody jean is made with built in shapewear to keep those curves in place. I love a good fitted jean and these look like they accentuate and flatter your curves simultaneously.

Check them out at Bloomingdales

What do you guys think about the new DKNY denim line and the Miraclebody jeans?
Hey curvy girls,
This season, one of denim's family members is starting to shine. If you haven't noticed already, Chambray is becoming the fabric of the season. The light weight fabric looks just like denim, but, it's a little more comfortable and less abrasive.

Are you a curvy girl looking to get in on the trend? Here are a few pieces to check out .
