Hey curvy girls all over the world,
As I was reading the new issue of Marie Claire while riding the train into work this morning, I came across an article with Oscar nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe. Gabourey briefly chats with Marie Claire about her favorite features and regrettable fashion moment.

Checkout a mini excerpt:

MC: What's your favorite feature?
GS: I have a nice smile, pretty lips, and big round cheeks. They help me look like a teenager.

MC: Most regrettable fashion moment?
In the seventh grade, I was about to leave wearing a jumper, when my mom said she could see my panty line. So I just wore stockings, That day I broke my ankle, and the EMS cut my tights off. I got a full cast with no stockings on and no panties.

In case you are wondering what Gabourey is up to, she will be on a new Showtime dramedy called The Big C.

Be sure to checkout the August issue of Marie Claire. I am still reading, but, so far there are a couple of features on Fall accessories which are pretty hot.

Hey curvy girls,
What does it mean to you to be Young, Fat, and Fabulous? As you sit and ponder on that question, let me tell you about a few girls who embody what it means. As a native New Yorker, I had the pleasure of attending the YFF Conference created by well known (Soon to be MTV's TJ winner, I have faith that she'll win) fashion blogger Gabi of  the blog Young, Fat, and Fabulous. The event was hosted at ReDress NYC (one of my top five places to shop) in Boreum Hill Brooklyn. For the past year Gabi has been winning the hearts of curvy fashionista's all over the world with her amazing style and infectious charming swag.
I rushed to leave work on July 9th to go checkout the conference. Let me keep it real, I really wanted to see how these 10 fashion blogger's would be dressed. Upon my arrival, standing in front of the Redress store was the Parisian curvy fashionista Miss Sakina  from Saks In The City who was in a black curve hugging sequined pencil skirt that was a DIY project, and next to her was the ever so sweet Melinda from the blog Sound Bites in a chic black shift dress with a flower pin
As I perused the store to find the next blogger to chat it up with, I saw a familiar face. I'm pretty good with faces and names, so, I knew who she was right off the back. It was Aryn from YFF's closet feature. Aryn, is a beauty in person and her sweet spirit was shining through. She came to support the girls as well as model some clothes from the ReDress store.
The event began to fill up quickly, with curvy girls looking for their next great fashion find as well as meet their favorite curvy girl blogger. I saw all the bloggers eager to chat with their fans and give advice on shopping and style and their experience as fatshion bloggers. I continued to make my rounds. Next up was Finlands own, More To Love fashion bloggers Peppi and Mimmi, who I immediately clicked with, once I found out that they loved rap music and adored Jay-Z. They told me all about their trip to Kingz Plaza Mall in Brooklyn and the loads of sneakers they scooped up. They were truly fun gals to talk too. I asked them what plus size options were available to them in Finland and they explained that there isn't much of a choice in Finland so, they have to be creative and make due with what they have.
I headed to the back of the store where Redress has their famous leopard print couch and found, the stunning J. Fatshionable in a princess-esque pink tu tu with a three quarter sleeve sequin top and a pair of sexy Louboutin red bottom heels sitting on the couch next to a very tired and jet lagged Fashion Hayley who just got in that day.
Across from them was Christina from Musings Of A Fatshionista in a black caftan with a silver skull necklace and a pair of multi buckled wedged shoes. I asked the three blogger's their thoughts on the conference and each of them gushed about how wonderful the experience was for them.
Earlier in the week the girls started the conference with a kickoff party at Torrid where they got to exclusively review Torrids Fall collection. The next day they were off to Evans to check out their upcoming Fall season collection.
After leaving Christina, J, and Hayley I glided over to newcomer Nicolette of the blog Nicolette Mason. She spotted me as I was walking towards her because we both had on a very similar print. This Williamsburg resident was so sweet and happy to be among such stylist curvy girls. Nicolette is no stranger to fashion and design because she is a design strategist at an international design firm as well as the newest video blogger for Vogue Curvy.
Next up to meet was Gabbi of the blog Corozones Rojos who look absolutely fab in a black &white striped top. We talked about how most of her readers think she is Caucasian or Asian, when she is really Mexican.
And last but not least, the young woman of the night, Miss Gabi! who was shining like the star she is in a gold metallic slouchy top, fitted skirt, and an old school 1980's style gold chain. Gabi was so happy with the turnout and greeted all her fans and readers as if they were friends she hasn't seen in a long time.  I spoke with her for a moment just to find out how she was feeling about all her success. She said she was excited and happy, however, tired from a grueling weekend schedule of fashion previews as well as challenges for the MTV TJ contest.
After a year of rigorous planning the YFF conference was a success. All the blogger's were excited and appreciative for the experience and to be part of something that is truly phenomenal. The next day they were off to a photo shoot with Plus Model Mag, dinner with City Chic, and then on Sunday hanging out at Macy's to checkout the American Rag collection.

In a world where girls no matter the size are obsessed with how fat or skinny they look. These 10 fashion blogger's embrace their bodies and do not apologize for their size and for their sense of style. They all walked and spoke with confidence and poise. Even though each of them have gained internet fame within their own right, at the core, they are just unique individuals who simply love fashion and most importantly love themselves inside and out. Each of them wants to make their own personal dent in the world of fashion and represent for curvy girls all over the world.

Now, that's what I call being Young, Fat, and Fabulous.

Checkout more photos on the YFF Conference website as well as SC's Facebook page.

Please note: All photos of the 10 bloggers belong to Stylish Curves except for the Plus Model Mag photo at the top.

Hey curvy girls all over the world,
Since today is super hot in NYC, I thought it would be the perfect time to breakout my romper that I got from Target last week. Can you believe this romper was only $12.99 (I know!)? The romper is from Pure Energy's plus line and seriously, it is so comfortable and really cute. I love the ruffled details at the top, and I love how loose the shorts are on the leg. It has a ruched waist which made my little hero comfortable. I didn't have to suck anything in. I know many of you think that you can't wear rompers, well, I am here to tell you that you can. As with anything in fashion, you have to find what shape and style of a trend works best for your body. All rompers are not created equal, so, I found one that worked for my body. You have no excuse to not try out this trend. SC fan Audrey sent her pics in rocking her Target romper and now you have me. That's two curvy girls with two different body types, what are you waiting for?

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

I got the cutest earrings from H&M to go with this romper.

What I'm Wearing
Romper-Pure Energy
Bracelets- Lane Bryant (gifted from blogger conference)
Shoes: Kenneth Cole
Hat: Forever 21
Earrings: H&M

Also, I have some great posts coming up this week. So, be sure to check back daily.

Hey curvy girls all over the world,
This is what I wore to the YFF Blogger Conference. I found this dress at H&M and immediately grabbed it up. I truly love that store and how their size Large manages to fit a wide range of curvy girl sizes. As you already know, I rarely wear anything without having a pop of color on, so, I thought my pink (my favorite color) sandals would be the perfect compliment to this dress. I wore leggings because I have a big ole' booty that causes the back of the dress to rise higher than the front. I am not Marilyn Monroe so I didn't want the dress to fly up and give everyone a peek at my goodies. However, I actually liked how the leggings looked with the dress. I also loved the movement of the dress, it made me feel sexy and free.
Being that I was going to the conference after work, I didn't want to lug another bag so I threw on my go to white blazer to play down the dress.

My favorite part of this dress is the back. Oh, so, sexy!
Any who, I will be posting about my experience at the YFF conference soon. Hope everyone is nice like at FFFWeek
Hey curvy girls all over the world,
It looks like Ebony ( the girl who wore the tribal print ASOS dress) has sparked a rise in fans sending in their stylish curvy girl photos. Today, we have Anika from Norway.

Anika says:
I embrace my curves by making the most of them, the days of hiding them are long gone! I now know that if the clothes don`t fit THEY need changing, not me! :) I am always reworking my clothes, and much happier for it. Also, I like to put on a pair of heels and sway my hips LOL!

In the pic I am wearing a white dress of my own design (made from two dresses), a cut off tunic from H&M (that I also made into a dress), neckless from Accessorize, scarf and bangles from H&M, studded sandals from DNA, bonkers glasses bought in Croatia, fringed bag from Top Shop.

Anika, I love your creativity with your style. It's so bohemian and you wear it well.
Also, Anika writes her own blog called Sweet Faced Style. Check it out at http://sweetfacedstyle.blogspot.com/

In addition to blogging Anika is the Norway fashion editor to XOXO Skorch Magazine

If you would like to be considered for Stylish Curvy Girl of the day, please send in your photos to Stylishcurves@gmail.com. Please include your name, where you are from, and most importantly, how do you embrace your curves.

Hey curvy girls all over the world,

I am a crazy fan of ruffles. I'll admit that sometimes I can pile it on a little too much, but that's me. Like my earlier post, I do believe a ruffled skirt is a great addition to any wardrobe, especially during the summertime.

I love this skirt because it's so cute and flirty. I bought this ruffled top for work to tuck into my pencil skirts and thought it would go well with the skirt.
I wanted to add a pop of color so, I went with my yellow heart shaped belt that I bought at ReDress to bring out my girlie side.

What I'm Wearing
Blouse: Loft
Belt: ReDress
Skirt: Forever 21/Faith 21
Earrings: Forever 21
Shoes: Madden Girl

Hey curvy girls all over the world,
Are you still trying to perfect your summer wardrobe? Well, SC has just the thing for you to add to your summer wardrobe. Ruffled skirts are a great addition to any fashionista's closet. There is something about ruffles that scream romantic. You can pair this wardrobe staple with something as casual as a tank top to something as sexy as a pair of  high heels. A ruffled skirt will wake up any boring top by adding a bit of interest. Ruffles are not only romantic, but, they are playful and fun looking.

So do yourself a favor add one of these adorable skirts to your Summer wardrobe. Go ahead, show off those killer gams.

More Options
Hey curvy girls all over the world,
Anyone who knows me, knows that I love reading fashion magazines. You can even say I am obsessed. My closets and bookshelves are over flowing with mags dating back to 1998 (I know, I am obsessed). To put those mags to good use, I am adding a new feature to the blog (well, it's not new, I used to do it when I first started blogging, but stopped) where I share with you my favorite articles from some of my favorite magazines.

Glamour is no doubt in my top five favorite mags of all time. For August, they dedicated majority of the issue to finding the sexiest pair of jeans for your body. Might I add that the August issue is truly a good read. I read it cover to cover. In one of the many jeans articles, Glamour asked 10 of the most stylish women that they know, "What's Your Perfect Pair of Jeans." As I was reading I came across woman number 4 which happened to be plus size model Tara Lynn, who looked super cool and sexy in a pair of jeggings from The legging by Joe's and a black sexy sheer top from Lanston. Tara looked so cool and sexy in her pic and most of all, her body confidence was shining through.

I especially loved her answer to how she likes to wear her jeans, "I like to wear my jeans with heels, silk, and lipstick. Me too Tara!

The Legging by Joe's is available at Bloomingdales and goes up to a size XL. Here are are a few more jeggings by The Legging by Joe's.

Vest is from L'agence which is pretty pricey at $348 and goes up to a size L.

So, if you haven't already, checkout the August issue of Glamour. Truly a helpful read for all you jean lovers.
Hey curvy girls all over the world,
On July 25th prepare yourselves for the 4th season of Mad Men to begin and for a fashion collabo between the show and Banana Republic for a second time. The AMC show will showcase some of the series fashion style through the Banana Republic windows. Majority of the fashion will focus on taking your  work wear to cocktail hour. If you are looking for some new updates to your work wardrobe or just want to rock that sexy secretary look like Christina Hendricks, then this is right up your alley. As a fan of BR this is a perfect match. However, based on the pick above, the styles are nothing new.

Here's a little excerpt from Stylelist
"Mad Men" is coming back and Banana Republic wants to help you get the show's '60s style.

For the second year in a row, Banana Republic is partnering with the iconic AMC show, promoting the series via its store windows, a how-to style guide, online instructional videos, and a contest in which one customer will win a walk-on role.

To win a walk on role all you have to do is to pick up a ticket at a US Banana store between July 21-August 11th. According to Stylelist: The ticket bears a code that allows customers to upload photos of themselves wearing their best "Mad Men" look. Series creator Matthew Weiner will select the winner.

Hey curvy girls all over the world,
If you are in NYC then you have been beaten up and down in the sweltering 100 degree weather we've been having. It's almost to the point now that I am ready to walk the streets naked, seriously. However, like Destiny's Child said, I don't think you're ready for this jelly, so, for now I'm keeping cool in this super cute white dress that I bought from Ebay extraordinaire Jen's Fashion Plus. After my post about summer white dresses (check it out here) I decided to search for my very own and I came across this fun number at Jen's store.
The dress is made of cotton, but, the material felt like gauze, which I liked because it would keep me dry throughout the sweltering heat. The ruffles at the bottom of the dress made me feel girlie. Personally, I love tube dresses because I like to show off my neckline, so, this dress was perfect in so many ways. The dress also had a beachy feel, which is why I knew a straw hat and cork wedges would be the perfect compliment to the look. The dress was so light weight and comfortable that I was able to walk around in it for hours without dying to take it off. Most importantly it was under $30 and is made of good quality. I will be wearing it at least once a week for the rest of summer.
Dress: Jen's Fashion Plus
Shoes: Banana Republic
Bangles: Lane Bryant (complimentary gift)
Earrings: H&M
Hat: Forever 21

Be sure to check out Jen's Fashion Plus

Hey curvy girls,
I had such an awesome weekend and wanted to share with you one of my new finds. This weekend I went to the International African Festival and such a great time. I learned to belly dance, had amazing food, and even got to see a fashion show. One of the designers I saw was Afrodelik. I loved the graphic tee's with afros on them as well as some of music's most legendary singers like Bob Marley and Jim Hendrix that were pictured on a few of the shirts.
I saw a few more designers, which, I will share with you throughout the week. However, Afrodelik came all the way from Canada to showcase their stuff and the crowd was pleased.

Who's Afrodelik? Well, according to their website: Afrodelik was founded by artist Desiree Marshall. Afrodelik celebrates black culture by producing rich, funky, hand-drawn afrocentric art collections for clothing.
Currently they are only producing t-shirts but have plans to expand to bottoms and headwear.

The shirts come in sizes XXS-2XL. THey also have shirts for men and children.

Checkout some of the t-shirts below. You can also purchase these shirts at Afrodelik

Hey curvy girls,
I have another stylish curvy girl of the day for you. Audrey from Harlem, NY.
Audrey Says:
MY FAVORITE PLACES TO SHOP ARE OLD NAVY, H&M, TARGET, WALMART, RAINBOWS, AMERICAN APPAREL.

I EMBRACE MY CURVES BY WEARING CLOTHING THAT COMPLIMENTS MY CURVES. I REALIZED THAT INSTEAD OF TRYING TO BE LIKE MY FRIENDS WHICH ARE SMALLER THAN ME, I DECIDED TO COME UP WITH A NEW LOOK THAT FITS ME AND MY PERSONALITY. CURVES ARE SEXY BUT NOT EVERYONE THINKS SO, SO WHEN I SHOP I THINK "CUTE". WHAT WILL LOOK CUTE ON ME? INSTEAD OF WHAT LOOKS SEXY ON HER.
I LOVE TO READ THE BLOGS THAT FOCUS ON PLUS SIZE FEMALES BECAUSE IT REALLY HELPS WITH BEING COMFORTABLE IN SOCIETY AND FINDING ONLINE SITES TO SHOP FOR CUTE CLOTHES.

Audrey I am loving that Target romper. It is so cute. (I just bought one last week on sale too) I am loving that heart shaped necklace too. You are such a cutie and I love that you embrace your curves by finding clothes that works best for your body.
What Audrey is wearing:
SHADES:  H&M $6.00
BAG: H&M $5.00
BRACELET:  H&M $3.00
NECKLACE:  FOREVER 21 $12.99
TOP:  AMERICAN APPAREL TANK TOP
SHORT/ROMPER: TARGET
BELT:  FOREVER 21

If you think you are a stylish curvy girl and would like to submit your pics for Stylish Curves of the day, send your pics to Stylishcurves@gmail.com. Be sure to include what you're wearing along with a brief statement on how you embrace your curves.

Banana Republic Fall Collection

Hey curvy girls:
According to Stylelist, retailers will begin to usher in their fall collections very soon. I am talking this month soon. It's only July, fall clothing is nowhere on my mind. I am still trying to perfect my summer wardrobe. Ever since the recession, retailers have been shaking up their inventory by cutting down the amount of sizes they are shipping to stores. Could bringing out their seasonal collections early be a new tactic to boost sales? As consumers are you interested in buying fall clothes this early into the summer?

Here's what Stylelist had to say:
It's the fast-fashion retailers like H&M and Zara that are making things move more quickly these days, because they can. And if one does it, they all follow suit. However, there have been some concessions made to this insanity. Designers do show things like shorts and swimsuits for some early fall (aka summer) deliveries, and leather pieces always seem to find their way into early spring selections.

Retail trend expert Tom Julian author of "Nordstrom Guide to Men's Everyday Dressing," says,
"In the apparel world, designers and brands are always working about two years ahead, committing to fabrics and themes," Julian, author of "Nordstrom Guide to Men's Everyday Dressing," continues. "The only way to stay competitive is to embrace this model and give retailers what they ask for -- even if the shopper is not asking for it.

For more on  the story checkout Stylelist

Just in case you are one of those shoppers who hates summer and you are ready for Fall. Here are a few retailers with some great pieces for fall.
