Hey curvy girls all over the world,
If you are a makeup lover or are just looking to update some of those suspect concealers and foundations that have been hidden in the bottom of your bag since 2009 then you will be excited to know that renowned makeup artist and Oprah favorite, Bobbi Brown will be hitting up Lord &Taylor's this week.
Recently Lord & Taylor opened up their new cosmetics section located on their main floor, one of the new counters is Bobbi Brown. In celebration of the opening of Bobbi Brown's new counter at Lord & Taylor, on Thursday, September 23rd, Bobbi Brown herself will be coming in and signing copies of her new and sixth book, Beauty Rules. Bobbi will be in the store from noon-2:00 pm, however, her beauty team will be on hand all day to give makeup lessons! There will also be a special ceremony before the event with Bobbi to acknowledge the new addition.
I for one can attest to her makeup as well as her makeup artists. I was at a L&T event a month ago and her team hooked me like no other. As a deep dark skinned woman I can never find the right makeup or colors that work for my complexion and her makeup was perfect for me. The colors were great and it was as if I was not wearing any makeup. My skin was glowing and the makeup was so light.
This event was definitely worth checking out.

Hey curvy girls all over the world,
Last month I was invited to Old Navy's Fall Essential event at one of their showrooms in NYC. The event was spotlighting their new collection of sweaters and jeans. When I got to the showroom there were very few sizes left in the jeans and unfortunately I could not try on anything from their new Fall denim collection. Needless to say, I was a little disappointed because I had my eyes on those motocross jeans and their new jeggings. Nevertheless, I believe in making things work, so I cruised the showroom and spotted this bright pink sweater cape. Pink is my favorite color (I do like purple too) so, I scooped up the sweater immediately. Luckily I was wearing my cobalt blue dress from Faith 21 and thought the pink would pay a nice compliment to the dress.
As I continued looking around. I found some really cool jewelry that they had and picked up this multi-layered chain necklace and earrings. I thought it was kind of odd that I had on my pink shoes that day and realized I matched head to toe. I'm not really a matchy matchy kind of girl, but, I thought the blue and pink worked out well. The sweater was super soft and it draped nicely over my body. I liked the shawl necked collar and large buttons because it gave the cape an updated look.
Surprisingly the jewelry was very cute and I wear the multi-layered necklace over my high neck dresses and tops to spice op some of my simple looks. The sweater cape will definitely be a go to piece in my wardrobe because of it's versatility. It looks good buttoned up, with a tee and jeans, as well as thrown over a dress.
Please checkout the little video Old Navy made featuring me. I know I blinked 500 times. Still working on that. :).
The sweater cape is still available for purchase at Old Navy

For the second time Aldo teams up with designer Julian Louie for a collection of suede patchwork wedges that kind of resemble Jeffrey Campbell wedges. The wedges were featured in Jean Louie's S/S 2011 collection and were just as stunning as the clothes.

There is no release date yet for these super fly wedges so be sure to keep your eyes peeled to the Aldo's website.
What are your thoughts on the Aldo for Julian Louie collection?

On a breezy sunny afternoon up the the block from the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week tents, fashion history was being made. Online plus size mall One Stop Plus set out to conquer an industry that shuns anyone with a little meat on their bones. They have dared to do the unthinkable, put together the first plus size fashion show at NYC Fashion Week.
As I raced up the steps from the 59th street train station, my heart was pounding with excitement and all kinds of thoughts were racing through my head. Who's going to be here, are the clothes going to be nice, will this show change the industry? Once I arrived at the Jazz center the place was packed with celebrities from oscar nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe to ABC Family "Huge" star Nikki Blonsky. As everyone sipped champagne and chatted about their expectations and hopes for the show, all the guest were alerted that the show was about to start in 5 minutes. Once we took our seats and the lights dimmed, all you could see was the light shining on beautiful bodacious bodies like they were angels from above.
The S/S 2011 collection was named "Belle Epoque" which is acknowledged as "The Golden Age." One Stop Plus believes that Belle Epoque perfectly captures this new golden age of plus size. "It was the era when fashion began to move in a yearly cycle, perfect for One Stop Plus.com's first fashion show"
The collection was made up of five themes, Artisan Drape, Acquatica Lace, Ethereal Denim, Cargo Femme, and Guilded shine. There was a conglomeration of asymmetrical draped and ruffled dresses, cruise shorts, maxi skirts, and cargo style jackets. Any fashion loving curvy girl could appreciate the collection for its play on classic yet simplistic designs as well as the color combinations. Lace, sheer, and silk seemed to be the prevalent fabrics within the collection. They even sent a few models down the runway in cuffed cargo style shorts and mini dresses. The models were on fire as they sashayed down the runway twisting and turning and giving their best face. Toccara Jones a crowd pleaser looked fierce as she twirled on the runway. Model Marquita Pring was giving legs for days in a draped aquatic lace dress and Ashley Graham looked pretty and sweet in a baby doll lace dress.
What the collection did lack was that raw and unique edginess that plus size women envy from designers like Alexander McQueen, Zac Posen, and Rodarte. However, what the One Stop Plus fashion show did articulate was that a plus size woman can look sexy, sophisticated, and possess confidence in not only her body but in who she is as a woman.
Now, what does this show mean for the future of plus size fashion? That, I cannot answer yet. What I hope is that this show opens up the minds and wallets of the fashion industry nay sayer's to become financial backers for other great plus size designers so next year there can be more than just one plus size fashion show at fashion week. I also hope that it brings more professional work for known and unknown plus size models.
Thanks to One Stop Plus.com for taking the time, effort, and hard work to represent for the girls with a little meat on their bones.

Hey curvy girls all over the world,
Yesterday was history in the making and I was so excited to be part of it. As you all know from my tweets, the One Stop Plus fashion show was yesterday. It was the first ever plus size fashion show at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. I have tons of stuff to share with you guys, but, I thought I would start off with what I wore to the show.
I decided to go for a geometric print Calvin Klein (plus line) sweater mini dress that I am just smitten with. The quality of the dress is like no other sweater dress I've seen before. I scored this belt at NY&CO the morning of the show because I couldn't decide whether to wear it belted or un-belted.
Since it was a little breezy outside, I wore my favorite anorak (and only one) from H&M's organic collection to add an unexpected touch to the dress.
I chose to rock my new suede ankle boots that I picked up at the Piperlime pop-up shop in Soho and my new Michael Kors watch, and earrings that I bought at Century 21.
Stay tuned to SC today because I have more photos and video to share with you about the historic fashion show.
What I'm wearing:
Dress: Calvin Klein
Boots: Michael Antonio
Earrings: Century21
Watch: Michael Kors
Belt: NY&CO

Hey curvy girls all over the world,
It has been brought to my attention that actress Gabrielle Union is putting the finishing touches on her plus size clothing line (mouth wide opened). The line will be called "Love & Blessings by Gabrielle." This is a very big surprise since Gabrielle is not a plus size woman and has never expressed (at least to my knowledge) a desire for designing clothes. I mean, she is a red carpet darling but, a designer, hmmm!
According to YBF Gabrielle says:
"It's not completely solidified yet so I shouldn't really be talking about it. But it's been 4 years in the making."
But we still managed to squeeze out her inspiration behind the line. The "FlashForward" actress tells YBF:
"My sister is very full figured. And she's constantly telling me how going out is so hard. Mainly because it is so difficult to find clothes that look great for her size. 'Everyday' black women don't have much to choose from when looking for designers who will fit their bodies. So I want to make clothes for women at any and all sizes that look absolutely great on them."
She is looking to shop the line to QVC or HSN. I can't help but to wonder what a Gabrielle Union line would look like. Hopefully she included her plus size sister in the designing of the line and more importantly I hope her sister has amazing taste if she was included in the design process. This is a big step for an actress, especially a black actress. Dressing for the red carpet is one thing, but designing clothes is a whole other realm.
Do you think she will deliver?
