Hey curvy girls all over the world,
Last Friday SC headed on down to the Redress Indie trunk show to checkout designs from LaDan's closet, Cupcakes and Cuddle Bunny's, Fennimas Jewelry, Jessica Pritchett shoes, and so much more. The event was held at the Invisible Dog in the Cobble Hill area of Brooklyn. The place was packed with well dressed curvy girls who were dying to see what was going to come down the runway.

Hey curvy girls all over the world,
For many, Torrid is the go to place for trendy and contemporary plus size clothing. Well, now you can get your Torrid fix over at OneStopPlus's online mall. The online retailer has teamed up with Torrid to bring of the moment fashion to a whole other market of plus size women.

Here's what OSP's President Stephanie Sobel had to say about the partnership:
“Torrid's distinct take on catwalk to sidewalk brings OneStopPlus.com
another step closer to providing all things to all plus-size women,”  “As the largest

pureplay plus size retailer in the world, we are committed to providing a

broad portfolio of fashion options for our customers, as well as

opportunities for forward-thinking companies.”

A few months ago Lane Bryant partnered with the infamous DKNY brand by selling selective pieces in store an online. From what I hear the partnership is doing well. DKNY Plus is not accessible everywhere so in my opinion it was a great move for Lane Bryant. Since Torrid has its own online presence I'm curious to see how well this partnership does. I clicked around on the website and saw that they are selling the same items that Torrid has on their website. I think it would be great if Torrid offered exclusive items on OSP and if they did outfit combos that included Torrid and other OSP brands. What this partnership will offer is OSP's customer base Torrid's young and trendy aesthetic.

We think it's a good look for OneStopPlus.com. Checkout the site HERE

What do you guys think about OneStopPlus teaming up with Torrid? Sound Off!

This year was one of the best birthday's I've had in my 29 years on this earth. On my actual b'day  was the 11th. I was picked up by a luxury car service and wisked off to the Fashion to Figure store at Kingz Plaza Mall in Brooklyn to meet the FTF rock your fashion inspiration makeover winner to do her photo shoot with Plus Model Magazine Editor Maddy. The FTF team was so nice and sweet that they bought the winner and myself a Cinnabon cake to celebrate both of our birthday's. After the 4 hour shoot was over I headed to the nail salon to get some much needed pampering and got a mani, pedi, and a back massage.

I met up with one of my close college friends who treated me to a yummy Thai dinner at Cafetasia on West 8th street in NYC. On Friday night, I headed over to the Redress Indie plus fashion show to checkout some of the designers. I was truly excited to finally meet the famous Sharon Quinn who was super nice and let me take a picture with her. On Saturday, I spent the entire day shopping and getting myself ready for my b'day dinner. It was nice to have an entire weekend to myself to do what I wanted. I work very hard and I was just happy to get much needed rest and pampering.

Checkout some of my b'day dinner pics with family and friends (more pics on FB)

This is one of my college homies T. who just cut off her hair and I think she just looks fabulous. I sometimes like to call her my blog editor because she definitely lets me know when I give good posts or when I should have just never posted about something at all.

This is my HS BFF we go back over 10 years and my new friend that I'm courting :) fellow blogger Danielle from Rhapsody.

This me and another college homie. We share the same dream career and she is dope with makeup.
Dope stylist Steffany and Jeanette of the blog Netta P. stopped by along with Danielle from the BGU fashion show just to hang out with me on my b'day.

It was truly a good fun filled night with drinks and food. I was extremely happy.

Oh, and I wore the pink lipstick from mac (girl around town) I tweeted about a few weeks ago. I thought it worked out well.
As women sometimes we can become completely obsessed with that tiny little number on the tag inside of our clothes. For some of us that number is a single digit and for a myriad number of us it's a double digit. We allow the number on the tag to dictate how we should feel about our bodies and we allow that number on the tag to talk us out of some really good pieces of clothing because we think it's not going to fit. Well, one of my missions as a plus size blogger is to get my fellow plus size women to stop obsessing over that number in the tag because when it comes to clothes size doesn't always matter.

I am the type of shopper who is at the store early in the morning right when they open. I do this so I can try on everything without the hustle and bustle when the stores begin to get crowded. What I've learned from trying on everything is that just because something is your size doesn't mean that it will fit you and sometimes when something isn't your size it just may fit you. I think it is embedded in some plus size women's mind that we must always shop plus. I for one never bought in to that theory because my closet has sizes that range from a 12 to a 20 from brands like BCBG to Lane Bryant.

As fashion loving plus size women we should be focusing on the cut and shape of clothing as much as possible. By now we all know that as plus size women we have to get creative with fashion. So it's important for us to not dismiss things because of that number on the tag. Depending on the trends, pieces can be cut over sized to drape on the body of a smaller woman but on a plus size woman it may give a nice fitted look. Tunics have been on trend for years now and can easily fit a variety of sizes. If a dress is too tight on your hips try it as a top.

You should also know that not every brand/designer sizes their clothes alike. I'm always amazed how H&M and Top Shop size large fits my curves so well and sometimes I'm squeezing into a size 2X.  It's mind boggling. From reading my blog you already know that I'm an avid Loft shopper. This summer they had a beautiful red empire waist dress with ruffles at the neck. I picked up the size 16 to try on and it was swimming. Believe it or not I had to go down to a size 12 in order for it to fit. Donna Karan, Juicy Couture, Michael Kors, and Banana Republic are a few brands who offer generous cuts in their clothes and utilize other fabrics besides polyester and Lycra.

I'm not saying to buy clothes that are too small. Of course try on clothes that are in your size first, but don't be afraid to shop in the misses department when you're plus. Stop looking at stuff and automatically dismissing it because you think it won't fit or look good on you due to the size on the tag. There's nothing wrong with just trying.

Here are few of SC's tips:

1. Get to know your shape. It's important to know what are the larger and smaller parts of your body because it makes it easier for you to browse clothing and have some idea of what will fit just by looking at it.

2. Pay attention to cuts and shapes. Some styles may follow the contour of your body like a sheath dress. Other cuts may slightly flair out away from your body like an A-line. Empire waists can give a little extra room in the middle or it can create a flattering shape. Knowing different cuts will help you determine what styles fit and flatter your body most.

3. Find an experienced tailor and keep him/her on speed dial. Tailors are like magicians they can work magic on just about any garment there is. They can turn dresses into tops an add fabric where needed. It's just amazing what a tailor can do. I've found dresses that fit, but, were too tight for comfort and I've had a tailor open up the side seams and add stretch paneling to make it fit.
Note: Only do this if you are truly in love with something.

4. Know Your Fabrics. This is just as important as knowing the cut and shape of clothes. Fabric plays a major role in how clothes fit you. Which explains why so many plus designers do stretch jersey because it's more forgiving than others. Cheaper brands rely on polyester and lycra.

5. Try, try, try! If something looks like it may fit, but, the number on the tag is not your size then just try it on. You just never know.

At the end of the day, if it doesn't fit then so be it. My point is that as plus size women we should always keep an open mind when it comes to shopping. Like the old saying goes, don't knock it until you try it.
Last week I was a shopping maniac due to all my birthday coupons. This faux fur vest was one of things I purchased and it was super cheap. I wanted the fur vest to add a little trendy flavor to my basic dresses and tunics. Luckily the weather was in the mid 60's so I was able to wear it on its own. I always find it interesting how one trendy piece can transform all your basic pieces. This is why I'm probably a fan of the 70/30 rule. You know, 70% of your closet should be classic pieces and the remaining 30% should be trendy pieces. I'll be wearing this vest with my skirts and of course jeans.
Saturday, I chose to wear the vest with a light pink satin dress and leggings. I paired it with my favorite brown leather boots that I got for $50 at Steve Madden 3 years ago. They were the last pair of boots in the store and they were a size 10. Believe it or not these boots were in the intro of the movie "The Devil Wears Prada." Atleast that's what I think I saw.
I thought I would complete my Rachel Zoe look with my purple oversized shades, a big cuff bracelet and my big Michael Kors watch. I took one look at myself and said, "I Die!" LOL!
What I'm wearing: Vest-Torrid, Tunic-H&M, Leggings-NY&CO, Boots-Steve Madden, Shades-Loft, Bracelet-Loft (Gifted), Watch-Michael Kors

Rachel Pally is a girls best friend. She creates cute sometimes sexy jersey dresses that flatters any shape. Target has teamed up with the jersey dress queen by offering an exclusive convertible jersey dress for Target's Red Hot Shop. The purple draped dress can be converted from a halter dress to a skirt to a sexy little strapless number. The only catch to this wonderful collaboration is that the dress is $79.99 which is a steal for anything Rachel Pally but a little pricey for anything at Target. Nevertheless, since Rachel is known for making quality dresses we may just consider this an investment piece.

You can purchase it HERE

One thing about Kim K. is that she knows how to make trends work for her curves. Kim's entire look is trendy and most stylists would say that's a no no. You should just go with one trend. As with any fashion rule, that's not always true. We like that Kim is not afraid to try things out and mix and match pieces. This season SC is a fan of the motocross jeans and faux fur vest. Kim paired the two together for a unique look. We also like that she added the wide brim hat and blush colored platform pumps to pull everything together.

When it comes to being plus size their is alot of speculation as to what should be considered plus size especially when it comes to plus size models. Well, Editor Madeline Figueroa of Plus Model Magazine has decided to put the speculation to rest by creating a survey that will help the fashion industry understand how plus size women feel about size and what they want to see as representation. Plus Model Magazine's goal  is to get 1,000 women to take the survey by November 29th.

Here's what Madeline had to say about the survey:
"The reason for this survey, is for PMM to know and to share with our clients, what our customers, fans and readers have to say about the way they feel about themselves and the way they are marketed to.

It seems like every conversation I have with a model, retailer, designer or agent, the topic of “size” always seems to come up.

Ten years ago, plus size models were curvy size 12′s through 18′s and coveted magazine covers, national campaigns and advertisements. In recent years we have seen a drastic change in the size of the plus size model. Plus size models are no longer “plus size”, and as Crystal Renn explains it, they are now PLUS what the size of straight size models are in the straight size industry. We seem to be asking for the main stream industry to include plus size models as REAL WOMEN, but “real women” also include size 16, 18 and 20′s, but only the smaller models are being considered as models."

Please let your voice be heard by taking this survey. We have come a long way in the plus community but htere is always more room for growth. This survey could help change the minds of advertisers, modeling agencies, and designers  to creat better representation of the plus size woman.

You can take the survey HERE

Hey curvy girls all over the world,
I have always been a firm believer that you can find stylish clothes on a budget. With major chain brands like Target and Kohl's becoming the go to stores for luxury designers to present their more affordable bridge lines, a girl could easily find a great outfit for under $100.

Now when I think of budget friendly stores to find stylish clothes I never really think of Walmart. It actually wasn't until I went to the Just My Size symposium that I even considered buying clothes at Walmart. I know people have been giving pretty good reviews on a few lines from Walmart like Norma Kamali and Miss Tina, but, I still never considered it. I received a gift card to Walmart for attending the JMS fashion show and I thought what better than clothes to use the gift card on. I cruised the website and checked out Miss Tina's line and Norma Kamali's line and I found some really cute pieces at very low prices.
I'm no stranger to buying clothes for less than $20, but, when I do, I'm always skeptical of the quality (I don't expect much). Which is why I was skeptical of buying at Walmart. I wasnt sure of the quality or if I wanted to waste $20 on something that was going to unravel after 2 washes.

Although I was skeptical, I still decided to order. I bought a black and red striped skirt from Norma Kamali and a black sheer ruffled front top. Both pieces really caught my eye and I knew they would work together creating a no brainer outfit. I must say for the prices, I was pleased with the quality of the pieces 9for right now, we will have to wait and see how they look after the first wash). Although the skirt is polyester it had a little weight to it. I liked that the skirt was full and that the pleats weren't too tight and structured. I liked how the skirt draped over my hips, however, it was really windy yesterday and the skirt kept flying up showing all my goodies (not a good look).  I'll be sure to wear it in the summer on a really hot and humid day with no wind. The blouse was thin and sheer but it didn't feel rough and itchy like some cheap sheer items can feel. I also loved how the sleeves were flowy and giving a batwing effect.
Most importantly both pieces were $15 each. Plus, each piece can work double duty because they can easily be paired with many other items in my wardrobe. I decided to rock my classic tan trench with the outfit and breakout my new black suede side scalloped pumps from Vince Camuto that I scored at Lord and Taylor's for under $50. I truly love these pumps because they're not too high and they were pretty comfortable for heels. I actually wore them today on my commute to work and my feet didn't hurt.
Overall my entire outfit including the trench and the shoes was $100 exactly. That's what I call style on a budget.
If you like what I'm wearing the skirt and top are still available at Walmart. Just click on the links below

Fellow curvy girl and dynamic singer Chrisette Michele will be releasing her new album this month titled "Let Freedom Reign" on Nov. 30th. The natural haired beauty looks amazing on the cover of her new album. We love that Michelle likes to take risks with her looks and never looks the same. The lashes, the hat, and the bold lips work so well together.

For CM fans, here's how she describes the new album, "It’s not typical and there might be a song that you might not relate to, but at least you’ll know it’s mine.” With tracks featuring Rick Ross and Talib Kweli, we can't wait to get our hands on this CD.
Looking for a cool weekend look? Take a few cues from Janet Jackson. "The For Colored Girls Only star was at 106 and Park looking super cute in a leather jacket, skinny jeans, and animal print boots. What we like about Janet's outfit is that it's made up of basic pieces like a black turtleneck and black skinny jeans that are probably already in your closet. We also like that she spiced things up with a pair of leopard print boots.
