Hey curvy girl's all over the world,
Our fave curvy girl Amber Riley is always giving us fab style, whether she's on the red carpet or on the set of Glee. Amber is the kind of curvy girl that where's what she wants and we looove that about her. Just as much as Amber loves her bright colored dresses in classic silhouettes, she enjoys great prints as well. Since we know you love Amber so much we found two of her dresses that we thought were adorable and great to kick off the spring season.

Last month Amber rocked a printed draped dress with a waterfall denim jacket to the Paley Center for Media. Amber's dress was from contemporary brand All Saints. All Saints goes up to a size 10 and is a favorite among  a number of young celebs. This definitely goes to show that all sizes are not created equal. Many non plus brands make clothes that are generously cut or sometimes the oversized look is in and winds up working for those of us with a little meat on our bones. The All Saints dress is about $200 and you can purchase Amber's dress HERE .

We also love that Amber is not afraid to bargain shop. Just last week she was spotted on the set of Glee wearing a Faith 21 Plus multi colored brush stroke zippered dress which was under $30.
The dress is sold out online, but, you may be able to find a few lingering around in store. Check out Faith 21 Plus HERE for more cute spring dresses.

Hey curvy girls all over the world,
Since Jill Scott is releasing a new album we expect to see more and more of her over the next couple  of months, which is good for us because we get to see what fabulous looks she will be rocking. Jill has everyone anticipating her new album. While on promo for "The Light of The Sun" Jill was spotted at 106 & Park rocking a red and white tunic sweater, jeggings, and a pair of sassy red wide strapped sandals.

Is she working it or is it back to the drawing board for this curvy girl?

Fellow curvy girls Amber Riley and Jennifer Hudson both dawned corsets as tops. While we love Amber's sparkling corset we felt that Jennifer's looked a little too much like the top part of a girdle. Wearing corsets as part of an outfit is nothing new but seeing it on a couple of major celebs makes us wonder if this trend is making a return.

Would you wear a corset as a top?

Hey curvy girls all over the world,
Can you guess what movie the phrase "What in blue blazers" is from ? The answer is at the end of the post.
Today was such a nice day. No coats, no boots, and no tights, just me, my blue blazer and pleated trousers. I was gifted this blue blazer from misses and plus size company Monroe and Main. I have been searching for a blue blazer for awhile and was glad to have found one. I've never shopped Monroe and Main before. I reviewed their site and there were some hits and some misses. Some pieces catered to the more mature woman or as Wendy would say, "Women of a certain age" and there were a few pieces that were on trend.
The blazer is a stretch satin cotton blend with a light sheen to it. I actually like my blazers to be fitted and this one fits kind of loose (nothing a tailor can't fix). I also liked that it was a one button blazer because I feel like one and three button blazers have a tailored fit and work best with my my round hero of a stomach. The navy color of the blazer also worked well with my complexion. Most navy colors are dull and make me look dull. This color navy actually had a little umph to it. They also have this blazer in fuchsia, which I'm dying to get. Overall this is a great blazer with a nice cut.

For more Monroe and Main check them out HERE

Friday's post was about pleated trousers and I bought a pair myself from ASOS. As a very hippy person, I'm always self conscious about trousers and how they fit, which is why I normally size up and then get my pants tailored. I love how these trousers drape over my hips and thighs. The light pink color makes them versatile enough to wear with so many other things in my closet. They're great for work and I would wear them with a sexy little top for going out at night. The pants have an elastic waist which I would normally scoff at,but there is a tie waist belt that covers the elastic so they were good to go.
Today, I wore my new red lipstick from MAC. It's called Ruby Woo. I've been on the hunt for red lipstick and thanks to the Style and Beauty Doc Danielle, I found one. What do you guys think?

Oh, by the way, the answer to the question  above is, the movie "Talk To Me" have you guys seen that? It's a movie about the iconic comedian Petey Green from DC played by Don Cheadle. When Martin Sheen's character first meets Petey Green he is surprised and says, "What in blue blazers" I thought that was the funniest thing ever. Check it out the movie if you haven't. It's a very good and funny movie.

Well, I'm off to the movies this afternoon with the fam I'm wishing you all a very Happy Easter.

Last year harem and carrot pants were the hot trend for spring and summer. Well this season a more streamlined basic version of them are in. Pleat front pants are coming in vibrant hues as well as rich neutrals. For plus size women this style can be tricky. It's all about finding the right cut and fit for your body. We will admit that pleat front pants are slightly scary because it can add volume to your mid section. No one wants to look like they're wearing the pants version of mom jeans. On the other hand pleat front pants can be quite chic and sexy, especially when worn with the right shoes and top. Have you been eyeing this trend but are not quite sure how to make it work for you then check out SC's tips to help you look fab in this trend.
  • To keep your gams looking long we suggest wearing heels or wedges with this pant.
  • If you're bottom heavy aka pear shape make sure there is no pulling across your hip area. The pleats should neatly hang on your curves. You may have to size up and get the waist taken in to insure a perfect fit.
  • Do rock a blazer for a chic sophisticated look or if you want to (not that we think you should) camouflage your hips and rear.
  • Try this trend with an embellished tank or sheer button up for a sexy look.

Fellow curvy girl Jill Scott has released the artwork for her highly anticipated album "The Light Of The Sun." Jill in her pretty girl wag rocks out her album cover in a red oversized draped top, leggings, black thick strapped sandals, and a pair of fierce shades. I love the old school flavor the photo is giving and Jill looks confident while showing off her voluptuous curves.

What do you think about Jill's album cover?
While on her UK tour, Jennifer Hudson has adopted a new look. We are used to seeing Jennifer in chic draped or body con dresses in bright colors and classic silhouettes. We don't know if she's becoming influenced by the street style in the UK but it looks like Hudon is switching things up a bit and going for a more trendy slightly edgier look these days. She's traded in those simple chic dresses for cut off shorts, a cropped leather, and dresses with a little more flavor to them.

Are you loving Jennifer's touring style?

Last year perforated sandals were a big hit with celebrities from Katy Perry to Kim Kardashian and this year they have made a return. We love that this season they have returned in brighter colors, sleeker styles, and in a bevy of textures. While shoe shopping at Lord & Taylor SC fell in love with these super cute suede slingback perforated sandals from Enzo Angiolini. They are just what our spring wardrobe needs. They come in a number of colors and will look uber sexy with our well pedicured toes and they're only $99.

If you feel like your spring wardrobe won't be complete with out a pair of perforated sandals, then check out SC's picks for this shoe trend.

Turbans have been a hot trend since last year and it doesn't look like they're going anywhere. Celebrity stylist June Ambrose is the turban queen. Whether she's on the red carpet or hanging out with The kids this fab stylist is rarely seen with out her signature turbans. We think June put this trend on the map and we love that she is now going to capitalize on it with her very own line of turbans.

Ambrose's line of turbans come in vibrant rich colors and fun prints with glamorous names like Empress and Decadent. They are moderately priced from $125-$150.

You can purchase the fab turbans at her online shop http://www.juneambrose.bigcartel.com/

Hey curvy girls all over the world,
The beautiful petite Eva Longoria was spotted wearing a chic one shoulder side draped dress in a pale nude color with matching nude pumps. Eva's style is always classic and sophisticated with a youthful flair. Neutrals are a hot trend this year that celebrities can't seem to get enough of. We love that Eva added a little color to a completely nude look with a pair of green drop earrings. If you love Eva's look for an elegant evening out or for your own red carpet events then don't fret because SC has hooked you up with an almost identical look for your curves thanks to the trendy designers at ASOS.

Hey curvy girls all over the world,
A few weeks ago we attended the Ann Taylor 2011 Fall preview. For the past few seasons Ann Taylor has been making some impressive strides to create looks that appeal to both the young and trendy and to the mature and sophisticated. We think every season they get better and better at this. For their 2011 fall collection AT really paid attention to the trends. They incorporated popular trends such as color blocking, neutrals, and bright rich jewel tone colors. Many of the looks gave off a classic lady like vibe. Chiffon tops, leg lengthening trousers, and fur all gave a nod to the modern woman who loves classic looks but likes to spice things up with fur and animal prints. We love how they belted a fur vest over a suit jacket and paired a gray leopard print jacket with chic trousers.

Ann Taylor always has great accessories and for the upcoming fall season they don't disappoint. Get your budgets ready because you'll find it hard to resist the super cute lace up ankle boots, tasseled chunky heeled loafers, and snake skin bags. To go with those classic looks, AT offers some lovely statement necklaces, bracelets, and chunky cocktail rings. Overall we thought the collection was very sophisticated and doused with enough on trend pieces to make you feel modern.

Check out a  few pieces from the collection and tell SC what you think:

For attending this event Alissa received an Ann Taylor bracelet.

Hey curvy girls all over the world,
Ms. Adele has been one busy young lady. Her album 21 debuted at number one on the charts, she's had features in magazines such as InStyle and Elle and now the wonder kid has snagged the coveted cover of Rolling Stone. Woot, woot!  We love her cover! That full bouncy hair and her dreamy eyes just draw us in.

We're big fans of Adele and her music. What we love most about Adele is how candid she is about her music, life, and her body.

In an industry where being thin and overly sexual are prerequisites for maintaining a successful career, Adele squashes those stereotypes by thriving on her talent and passion for great soulful music. This young beauty is taking the music industry by storm and playing by her own rules. The cover of Rolling Stone is a major deal. It's almost like a rights of passage and Adele was a perfect choice.

For her album 21 Adele gets personal and deep. Critics and fans are mesmerized by Adele's voice and the passion and pain she delivers with it.

In the Rolling Stone issue Adele talks about her body and music. Here's a little excerpt of her interview with Rolling Stone contributor Toure

Adele on her weight:
"My life is full of drama and I won't have time to worry about something as petty as what I look like," "I don't like going to the gym. I like eating fine foods and drinking nice wine. Even if I had a really good figure, I don't think I'd get my tits and ass out for no one."I love seeing Lady Gaga’s boobs and bum. I love seeing Katy Perry’s boobs and bum. Love it. But that’s not what my music is about. I don’t make music for eyes, I make music for ears.”

Adele on her music education London's BRIT School:
“It was like Fame,” she says. “There were kids doing pirouettes in the fuckin’ hallway and doing mime and having sing-offs in the foyer.”

Adele on her alter ego Sasha Carter (a combo of Sasha Fierce and June Carter):
“I was about to meet Beyoncé,” she says, “and I had a full-blown anxiety attack. Then she popped in looking gorgeous, and said, ‘You’re amazing! When I listen to you I feel like I’m listening to God.’ Can you believe she said that?” Later, “I went out on the balcony crying hysterically, and I said, ‘What would Sasha Fierce do?’ That’s when Sasha Carter was born.”

Hey curvy girls all over the world,
The face of FFFWeek is Nina Taylor. Out of tons of applicants Nina was chosen by FFFWeek's panel of judges: Madeline Figueroa-Jones (Editor, PLUS Model Magazine), Sharon Quinn (FFFWeek Casting Director), and Stephanie Penn-Dansforth (Editor-in-Chief, Daily Venus Diva). Last year the beautiful Rosie Mercado was the face of FFFWeek 2010 and since then her career as a model has blossomed to great heights. Congrats to Nina on this wonderful honor.

Here's a little bit about Nina
Nina Taylor is a native of Washington DC. In May 2006 she completed her bachelors degree in Psychology in Pittsburgh, PA, December of 2009 she went on to complete her Master's degree in Human Resource Development focusing on education and training. Full time, Nina has a career in medical education in the field of Oncology and Virology (Cancer, HIV and Hepatitis.) She is responsible for the organizations, continuing medical education program accreditation as well as managing an educational tool for Cancer and HIV physicians domestically and internationally.

Nina has always had an interest in fashion and beauty. Within the past few years she has seen a shift in the standard of beauty due to progressive, exceptional full figured women who believe in the plus size industry and the undeniable talent within the curvy community. In the past, fashion and modeling have all been exclusionary to full figure women. In today's society, full-figured women are breaking out of their shells, embracing themselves and excelling in not only careers, but fashion modeling and social platforms within their communities. Nina saw this shift and wanted to take her place among other great plus size women. Nina draws inspiration from celebrities such as Jill Scott, Oprah, Mae West, Emme, Mia Tyler, Mia Amber, Velvet D'Amour, Ethel Waters, Ashley Graham and Queen Latifah. Nina enjoys modeling, makeup and photography as it serves as an exciting creative release to her highly scientific background.

Nina has a strong passion to serve her community, she works with and provides support for pregnant teens, autistic children and donates her knowledge and skills in makeup, fashion and beauty to women in the DC, Maryland and Virginia areas. She also takes interest in the youth and serves as a mentor to two teenage girls (Ages 13 & 19). She works closely with a Chamber of Commerce to assist in generating ideas for small business owners and minority entrepreneurs. Nina also has an extensive background in theater, consulting, public speaking and is a fan of paintball, the Pittsburgh Steelers and classic black and white movies.

Be sure to add FFFWeek to your calendars for June 16th-18th.

Stay tuned for more updates.

Hey curvy girls all over the world,
Evans has unveiled new pieces from their May spring collection. They tapped the smoking hot Marquita Pring to model chic looks that consist of  pleated maxi skirts, simple colour block dresses in a neutral colour palette, and pleated peg leg trousers.

The looks offer a contemporary edge that will appease the fashion forward curvy girl as well as the curvy girl who adores classic pieces in modern silhouettes. These looks are a mixture of boho and downtown girl chic. We love the fierceness Marquita is bringing.

The new collection will become available for purchase in the beginning of May at EVANS
