Hey curvy girls all over the world,
As the title above says, I almost never wear all black. I'm the kind of girl who loves bright colors. However, I do have the classic LBD and black skirts, but most times, I rarely wear them. I feel funny if I'm not wearing color. This year I want to incorporate a little more black into my wardrobe and this dress is my first step. The nice people over at Eshakti reached out to me and offered to send me an item to review. Out of all the colorful dresses that they have I was drawn to this trench style sleeveless dress. Eshakti sent the dress to me back in the winter time but, I wanted to wait until the spring to wear it. I know they're probably saying, it's about damn time.
I know people say that if you have big breast you should go for v-necks or scoop necks to make your breast look smaller. For some reason my eye is always drawn to the opposite. I'm all for a v-neck, but I don't need a closet full of them. I'm okay with my breast looking big because that's just what they are. I have big boobs. Some days I want to decrease them and some days I just want to flaunt them.

I've wanted a trench style dress since last year. I saw one at Loft but it was sold out in my size when I was ready to buy it. I was so happy that Eshakti had one. I think this dress is so cute and flirty. I love that it flares out at the hips and has cute little ruffled sleeves. It's made of cotton and has a little stretch to it. I also love that it has pockets which ups the cool factor for me. The only annoying thing about the dress is that I literally had to button all the buttons which was consuming but on the other hand I can leave it open and wear it as a jacket over a dress or with jeans. You know I like my clothes to be versatile.
I hope Eshakti makes more colors in this dress. I can see it in camel and in yellow.

This week I found the perfect shoes to go with this dress. I bought these Python sandals by Calvin Klein from Lord & Taylor. Whenever I try to break away from animal prints, they find a way to suck me back in. I seriously love these shoes and thought they were perfect to jazz up the dress. I also wore my silver and black bracelet to match with the color of the buttons.
You know I had to sneak in a pop of color somewhere, so I rocked my new pink shades and wore my fuchsia lipstick from MAC. I will definitely be purchasing more from Eshakti  and I will be wearing this dress to death. You can check out Eshakti HERE. The best thing about them is that they carry both straight and plus in the same designs. Even better than that you can get the clothes customized to your body.

The dress is still available and you can purchase it HERE

Have a great weekend!

Gabourey Sidibe stepped out this week in a bright red dress for the screening of the movie Thor. It looks like Gabourey is wearing Torrid's red pleated short sleeve dress. This is one of the better dressy casual looks that Gabourey has worn in awhile.

From the cut of the dress to her suede red pumps, and even to the coy flirty smile she's giving, Gabourey looks pulled together. This is definitely one of her better looks.

Checkout the Torrid Dress which is on clearance for $39.98

Tell SC do you agree that Gabby is working it or is it back to the drawing board for this curvy girl.

Hey curvy girls all over the world,
Today we have a guest post from fellow fashion blogger, the beautiful Bella of Bella Style's blog. Bella is the go to person when it comes to wearing the right foundations under your clothes. As curvy women no matter how much we may hate to wear things that hold us up and in, sometimes it's a necessary thing. I for one, don't always wear foundations. I hate to feel restricted, plus they are annoying to take off when you have to go to the bathroom. Nevertheless, they are necessary. I reached out to Bella to give us her picks for the best foundations and what to wear them under.

Here's Bella:

Today I'd like to thank Alissa for asking me to do a special guest post here on her blog. Alissa and many other readers who follow my blog know that I am a stickler when it comes to curvy ladies wearing the proper foundations. Even before Oprah made a spectacle about women wearing the right bra size, I have always felt strongly about this subject. I learned as a young girl to wear your girdles, slips and full-support bras even if most think it's old-ladyish. So today I'm gonna share with you some of my favorite undergarment items that I personally wear and that have great support for the curvy body:

The Body Magic

This has become one of my all time favorites because it give great back support and actually lifts the buttocks area and smooths the tummy. You may need help putting it on the first few times but now I have it down pack and on in less that 3 minutes. Price up to $200. Purchase at Full review here: You would wear the Body Magic under a dress such as this below:

The Miracle Suit
Now I was wearing this miraclesuit in both the ling-leg and body briefer styles before I got hooked on the Body Magic. This garment is good because it's easy to put on and smooths under a dress any flaws that you may have. Price $62 at Macy's. This is perfect to wear with a garment such as the jumpsuit below:

The Caberet Bra
I was introduced to this line of bras a few years back while getting a bra fitting during one of Dillard's specials. It has great support for full breast and goes up to cup sizes of H. They retail for $26 but go on sale for $15 during the Dillard's semi-annual sales. Check out a few here

You will need a full support bra like this with a maxi dress:

Lastly is the Skineez brand of a thigh slimmer briefer.
The Skineez Thigh Slimmer Kit contains a high quality, moderate compression seamless undergarment that focuses on slimming, toning, and smoothing from just above the waist to above the knee. Embedded in the fabric are tiny time-released microcapsules containing naturally derived vitamins, antioxidants and cosmetic ingredients, all working to combat aging and skin damage and they last up to ten washes. It retails for $68 at My Full review of this product is here: Wear the Skineez under a form fitting dress or pants for a sleek effect under your clothing:
Thanks so much Bella for your tips. For more foundation tips and hot fashion be sure to check out Bella's blog at

As women, when it comes to fashion, there is one thing that we love to have, and it begins with the letter O. Options! We love having options. Whether it's clothes or shoes, we like being able to pick and choose.
Unfortunately, women who wear a size 11 shoe and above have very few options. If you're above a size 10 in shoes you know how hard it is to find shoes in your size and even more importantly, how hard it is to find stylish shoes in your size. Well, SC has found a shoe site that caters to women sizes 11 and up. Exceptional Footprints was brought to our attention via Twitter.  It's a shoe site that wants to revolutionize the footwear industry by representing for the girls with size 11 feet and up.

Shondell Andre founded Exceptional Footprints like so many others, out of frustration. A size 12 herself, this fellow curvy girl felt that there was a market for women with size 11 feet and above. I'm quite sure plenty of women would probably be rich if they had a $1 for every time a shoe store said we don't carry your size. Shondell is showing love to the shoe challenged with Exceptional Footprints.

Have you been on the search for a pair of bright colored peeptoes or the new trendy nude pumps in your size? Well check this out, the site offers a bevy of stylish and trendy shoes ranging from sexy colorful heels, ballet flats, to jeweled encrusted sandals. Currently they carry shoe brands Corso Como and Madeline. Since the site is fairly new, we expect that they will be adding more brands as they grow. Just recently they added the Takera collection (pictured above), a shoe line by WNBA player Asjha Takera Jones which features richly colored suede heels in a t-strap style.

Shoes are priced from $49-$245. For more check out their website at

Hey curvy girl's all over the world,
Our fave curvy girl Amber Riley is always giving us fab style, whether she's on the red carpet or on the set of Glee. Amber is the kind of curvy girl that where's what she wants and we looove that about her. Just as much as Amber loves her bright colored dresses in classic silhouettes, she enjoys great prints as well. Since we know you love Amber so much we found two of her dresses that we thought were adorable and great to kick off the spring season.

Last month Amber rocked a printed draped dress with a waterfall denim jacket to the Paley Center for Media. Amber's dress was from contemporary brand All Saints. All Saints goes up to a size 10 and is a favorite among  a number of young celebs. This definitely goes to show that all sizes are not created equal. Many non plus brands make clothes that are generously cut or sometimes the oversized look is in and winds up working for those of us with a little meat on our bones. The All Saints dress is about $200 and you can purchase Amber's dress HERE .

We also love that Amber is not afraid to bargain shop. Just last week she was spotted on the set of Glee wearing a Faith 21 Plus multi colored brush stroke zippered dress which was under $30.
The dress is sold out online, but, you may be able to find a few lingering around in store. Check out Faith 21 Plus HERE for more cute spring dresses.

Hey curvy girls all over the world,
Since Jill Scott is releasing a new album we expect to see more and more of her over the next couple  of months, which is good for us because we get to see what fabulous looks she will be rocking. Jill has everyone anticipating her new album. While on promo for "The Light of The Sun" Jill was spotted at 106 & Park rocking a red and white tunic sweater, jeggings, and a pair of sassy red wide strapped sandals.

Is she working it or is it back to the drawing board for this curvy girl?

Fellow curvy girls Amber Riley and Jennifer Hudson both dawned corsets as tops. While we love Amber's sparkling corset we felt that Jennifer's looked a little too much like the top part of a girdle. Wearing corsets as part of an outfit is nothing new but seeing it on a couple of major celebs makes us wonder if this trend is making a return.

Would you wear a corset as a top?

Hey curvy girls all over the world,
Can you guess what movie the phrase "What in blue blazers" is from ? The answer is at the end of the post.
Today was such a nice day. No coats, no boots, and no tights, just me, my blue blazer and pleated trousers. I was gifted this blue blazer from misses and plus size company Monroe and Main. I have been searching for a blue blazer for awhile and was glad to have found one. I've never shopped Monroe and Main before. I reviewed their site and there were some hits and some misses. Some pieces catered to the more mature woman or as Wendy would say, "Women of a certain age" and there were a few pieces that were on trend.
The blazer is a stretch satin cotton blend with a light sheen to it. I actually like my blazers to be fitted and this one fits kind of loose (nothing a tailor can't fix). I also liked that it was a one button blazer because I feel like one and three button blazers have a tailored fit and work best with my my round hero of a stomach. The navy color of the blazer also worked well with my complexion. Most navy colors are dull and make me look dull. This color navy actually had a little umph to it. They also have this blazer in fuchsia, which I'm dying to get. Overall this is a great blazer with a nice cut.

For more Monroe and Main check them out HERE

Friday's post was about pleated trousers and I bought a pair myself from ASOS. As a very hippy person, I'm always self conscious about trousers and how they fit, which is why I normally size up and then get my pants tailored. I love how these trousers drape over my hips and thighs. The light pink color makes them versatile enough to wear with so many other things in my closet. They're great for work and I would wear them with a sexy little top for going out at night. The pants have an elastic waist which I would normally scoff at,but there is a tie waist belt that covers the elastic so they were good to go.
Today, I wore my new red lipstick from MAC. It's called Ruby Woo. I've been on the hunt for red lipstick and thanks to the Style and Beauty Doc Danielle, I found one. What do you guys think?
Oh, by the way, the answer to the question  above is, the movie "Talk To Me" have you guys seen that? It's a movie about the iconic comedian Petey Green from DC played by Don Cheadle. When Martin Sheen's character first meets Petey Green he is surprised and says, "What in blue blazers" I thought that was the funniest thing ever. Check it out the movie if you haven't. It's a very good and funny movie.

Well, I'm off to the movies this afternoon with the fam I'm wishing you all a very Happy Easter.

Last year harem and carrot pants were the hot trend for spring and summer. Well this season a more streamlined basic version of them are in. Pleat front pants are coming in vibrant hues as well as rich neutrals. For plus size women this style can be tricky. It's all about finding the right cut and fit for your body. We will admit that pleat front pants are slightly scary because it can add volume to your mid section. No one wants to look like they're wearing the pants version of mom jeans. On the other hand pleat front pants can be quite chic and sexy, especially when worn with the right shoes and top. Have you been eyeing this trend but are not quite sure how to make it work for you then check out SC's tips to help you look fab in this trend.
  • To keep your gams looking long we suggest wearing heels or wedges with this pant.
  • If you're bottom heavy aka pear shape make sure there is no pulling across your hip area. The pleats should neatly hang on your curves. You may have to size up and get the waist taken in to insure a perfect fit.
  • Do rock a blazer for a chic sophisticated look or if you want to (not that we think you should) camouflage your hips and rear.
  • Try this trend with an embellished tank or sheer button up for a sexy look.

Fellow curvy girl Jill Scott has released the artwork for her highly anticipated album "The Light Of The Sun." Jill in her pretty girl wag rocks out her album cover in a red oversized draped top, leggings, black thick strapped sandals, and a pair of fierce shades. I love the old school flavor the photo is giving and Jill looks confident while showing off her voluptuous curves.

What do you think about Jill's album cover?
While on her UK tour, Jennifer Hudson has adopted a new look. We are used to seeing Jennifer in chic draped or body con dresses in bright colors and classic silhouettes. We don't know if she's becoming influenced by the street style in the UK but it looks like Hudon is switching things up a bit and going for a more trendy slightly edgier look these days. She's traded in those simple chic dresses for cut off shorts, a cropped leather, and dresses with a little more flavor to them.

Are you loving Jennifer's touring style?
