Fellow curvy girl Donna Karan was spotted at the CFDA awards wearing along ruched blushed colored gown. Was she working it or is it back to the drawing board for this curvy girl.

There are a number of straight size brands that have added plus sizes to their lines. Some do a really good job and others, well, do a so so job. In this day and age plus size women are still fighting and campaigning for straight size brands and designers to include more sizes above a 12 in flattering styles that show off our bodies rather than hide them. I've always believed that designers can make bigger sizes in flattering styles, it's just a matter of what designers and brands will have the courage to do so and not follow the norm. Mainstream designer brands like Calvin Klein, DKNY,Tahari, Ralph Lauren, and Michael Kors have been very successful with their plus size lines and have created styles that fit and flatter plus size women at moderate prices.

While there is still work to do and more battles for plus size women to fight in order for our voices to be heard in the fashion industry it is nice to know that there are brands who are thinking about us and who want to include us. One of those brands is Donna Morgan. With a motto that reads Every lifestyle, for every woman Donna Morgan is among those few straight size brands that actually offer plus sizes and offer some of  their straight size styles in plus. Donna Morgan goes up to a size 16 in misses and a size 24W in plus. A business partnership between two women, Donna Morgan and Kathleen McFeeters the brand has been providing stylish chic dresses since 1992.

For the past two years Donna Morgan has dressed the entertainment industry's most well known plus size women. Amber Riley from the hit series Glee, Chandra Wilson, Queen Latifah, and Mo'Nique. Donna Morgan dresses have graced the covers of Heart & Soul, Marie Claire, and Parade magazine just to name a few. As I started seeing more and more of plus size celebrities wearing Donna Morgan, I was compelled to reach out to the brand and pick their brain about the fashion industry, dressing plus size women, and what celebrity they would like to see in one of their dresses.

Read what the Donna Morgan brand had to say:

SC: What separates Donna Morgan from the myriad of contemporary mid priced dress designers? DM: Donna Morgan is known for not only our prints but our fit. From plus size, to petites we have mastered our fit with jersey styles as well as our social dresses. Understanding your customer and what they feel comfortable in is so important. We have a plus size fit model who is very vocal in terms of what feels right.

SC:Who is the Donna Morgan woman?

DM:The Donna Morgan woman is modern and updated with a forward sense of style. She's wearing our dresses from work to dinner with such ease.

SC: I've noticed a few plus size celebrities like Amber Riley and Queen Latifah wearing Donna Morgan. Were you excited to see Amber in one of your dresses on the cover of Marie Claire and Queen Latifah in Parade magazine?

DM:We were beyond thrilled to see these two wonderful women in our dresses! Donna Morgan is all about dressing real women with curves and embracing them! We are also dressing Kirstie Alley. We love that they turn to Donna Morgan to look good.

SC:Do you have a favorite look from the plus size celebrities that you've seen in your dresses?

DM:One of our favorites was Amber Riley. With the show Glee being such a huge hit and tapping into a younger generation we were thrilled to see her in our fabulous strapless chiffon's!

SC:I know that you offer a small plus size collection, has the brand always been interested in designing for plus size women?

DM:Absolutely! We've had a very successful business in plus size but it's also important to know that when times change for our customer so do we! We are always re-inventing what's sold well for us and offering our customer the newest updated product.

SC:Since your brand does offer plus sizes, what would you say are some of the challenges in designing for plus sizes?

DM:Our number #1 challenge is to make sure the girl wearing our dresses is comfortable. When designing for plus size depending on the dress we will make certain changes to the garment (ie a wider strap, pleating through the front, smocking in the back) to ensure our customer feels great in our clothes!

SC:Will you be expanding your plus size collection?

DM:We already have! Nordstrom is really behind servicing a new, younger customer who wants to feel sexy and modern. Check out Nordstrom.com for our plus size options.

SC:Many brands like yourself carry straight and plus sizes, but few actually offer the same straight size styles in plus. For example, the sleeveless navy satin sheer top dress that Amber wore from your collection is offered only up to a size 16. I think alot of plus size girls above a 14/16 would love that dress in their size. Can you offer a little inside information as to why some styles come in straight sizes and not plus?

DM:While we would like to cut every missy style in a plus size sometimes we run into obstacles such as the print not being to scale for screen placement. Also, our plus size business is growing but it's also about making sure the styling is right. Not everything we do will be flattering on a plus sized girl.

SC:What celebrity would you like to see in Donna Morgan that hasn't worn your clothes already?

DM:Adele, Oprah, Gabourey Sidibe, Brooke Elliot, Melissa McCarthy

SC:I recently visited your showroom in NYC a few weeks ago. I'm loving the spring and fall collections can you tell me a little bit about the inspiration about those two collections?

DM:Spring 2011 brings in a breath of fresh, youthfulness, with fun femininity dominating style direction in color, silhouette, and detailing. Color also makes a strong feminine message of newness with soft tones of corals, yellows, aqua, blues and lilacs."Pretty" prints with mixes of multi tones in florals, abstract watercolor washes, stripes and dots, all create a lady-like chic, yet youthful fun mood for Spring.
Fall 2011 is about a return to elegance and polished sophistication. the swagger of the 70's and the allure of late 50's couture also influence this new mood of lady-like chic. Color is the most important statement for fall. Color blocking in unpredictable and interesting patterns are created within the dress, and also unusual color mixes in prints give a fresh take on bold coloration in a season where color and print used to stay subdued.

SC:Can you share with Stylish Curves readers what we can expect from the Donna Morgan brand? Will there be shoes, accessories, bottoms?

DM:Donna Morgan will continue to provide stylish and modern dresses at a great price! We keep pushing the envelope in terms of print and color. Also our "bridesmaids" styles will soon be expanding to plus sizes. We are also extremely excited about the launch of our own eCommerce website slated to debut in November 2011. Finally our customer will be able to buy directly from us. Keep an eye out for the launch!

SC:What's the most important thing you want women to know about the Donna Morgan brand?

That we're here to service our customer and keep giving her what she wants. We would love any feedback she has. She should use our Facebook page as an open dialogue between her and our design team. We share all her opinions both good and bad. We aim for 100% satisfaction. It's all about putting on a dress and just feeling fabulous in it! Doesn't everyone love that when it happens?

Hey curvy  girls all over the world,
It has been such a great weekend. The weather was just perfect. I was feeling a little tribal this weekend and decided to wear my tribal print top that I got from Fashion to Figure. I love how chic this top is. I wore it with these white skinny jeans that I got from Forever21 Plus. These jeans are so great and they make me feel so proud of my curves. If anyone has ever told you that plus size curvy girls shouldn't wear white then tell them that they are wrong. I think these white jeans flatter my voluptuous hips and thighs and I love them. I don't care what anyone says, curvy girls can wear white.

Hey curvy girls all over the world,
Thanks so much for your Stylish Curves of the Day submissions. We have a few more stylish curvy girls to share over the next couple of days. So if you sent in your pics, I will be posting them.

Today's Stylish Curves of the Day is Karen. When it comes to embracing her curves, here's what Karen has to say:

I am a fashion loving PhD student from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I embrace my curves everyday by making sure I'm always dressed stylishly. I view clothes as one of the most important aspects of my identity.

What I wear signals to the world around me (especially people who don't know me) who I am.
Wearing what I want with style and confidence is integral to my life. Fashion should not be exclusive. Everyone should be able to wear what they want without fear of judgment by others.
We all get to define ourselves, and our clothing is a big part of that. We are all beautiful and valuable, regardless of size. And we all deserve to dress in a way which makes us feel happy :D

Karen's fashion tip to live by: Throw all the rules out - wear socks and sandals if you want to, mix red and pink. Put your body on display proudly and be an inspiration and a trendsetter for women everywhere. Wear what makes you feel beautiful - not what others think will make you look beautiful. Confidence is always the best accessory.

Karen also has a blog you can check it out here http://www.curvycanadian.blogspot.com/.

Thanks Karen!

The Voice star Christina Aguilera was spotted a few weeks ago at the NBC Upfront presentation in a super cute and girlie polka dot frock by Dolce & Gabbana. We thought Christina's look was a perfect spring party look. The pop of color with the red patent leather peep toe pumps was a nice touch to add a little personality to her look. If you've been dying to get your hands on a polka dot dress this season, then we have the hook up for you. We found a similar version of Christina's price Dolce & Gabbana dress for you and an equally cute pair of red peep toe pumps that won't brink the bank like Christina's Christian Louboutins.

Hey curvy girls all over the world,
A few weeks ago I was invited to Ashley Stewart's newly redesigned flagship store in Brooklyn along with Plus Model Magazine, Madison Plus, and The Big Girl Blog. Before ASOS came to the states, before Faith21, Simply Be, and City Chic, Ashley Stewart was one of very, very few plus size brands that actually carried trendy items for plus size women. I remember back in the 90's all the plus size curvy girls would go to Ashley Stewart for club gear, church wear, and casual wear. You would find 16 year olds and 20 year old women both finding their style needs at Ashley Stewart. I even bought my prom dress from Ashley Stewart when they used to sell formal wear.

As the years went by I stopped shopping at Ashley Stewart because I felt like the quality wasn't worth the money. Now don't get me wrong I don't think their clothes are expensive, but, if I am going to pay $40 for something, I do need a certain level of quality. So, when they reached out to me to showcase their new flagship store and their new styles I decided to check it out and see what changes they made.

You can check out my full review on The Budget Fashionista.
For attending the blogger event, Ashley Stewart gifted all attendees a head to toe outfit. Myself and CeCe from The Big Girl blog both chose this linen strapless jumpsuit after seeing it on one of the billboards in the store. CeCe got the black version. I also chose this super wide belt that I thought was cute along with a beige floppy hat and a few accessories.

The turban is a DIY from a youtube video I saw. You can check it out Here

Also, here are a few more pictures from my visit to the Ashley Stewart Brooklyn flagship store.

If you like what you see or even if you used to shop Ashley Stewart and stopped, check out their website and see what they have to offer.
