It looks like style guru Stacy London of TLC's hit show What Not To Wear is throwing on her producer hat. Word on the street is the TLC alum will be launching a reality show that follows Brooklyn based plus size boutique owners Lisa and Jim Dolan. Lisa and Jim own Lee Lee's Valise in Brooklyn, NY. They are the first boutique to completely cater to plus size women in New York City. You also may know them from their shop being featured on TLC's What Not Wear anytime the show gets a plus size candidate.

As a Brooklynite, I personally remember when the shop first opened up. I received an email from Kiyonna clothing saying a boutique in Brooklyn carried their clothes. I stopped by the boutique the first week they opened and was so impressed with the layout and the variety of styles they offered. The stored had everything from apparel to lingerie to handbags, and even offered oversized jewelry. Lisa and Jim had everything covered. Lisa was extremely nice and wanted to get to know her customer. She had such a lively personality. Needless to say, I told everyone I knew about their boutique.

It's been over 5 years and Lee Lee's Valise has grown so much and has helped change the lives of so many plus size women who thought they couldn't be stylish. I am so happy for them and they definitely deserve it.

Ok, now more about the show. According to TLC the show will showcase, "plus-size fashion without the minuses of mainstream retail traditions in TLC’s newest series. Executive produced by WHAT NOT TO WEAR’s fashion authority, Stacy London, with BBC Worldwide Productions, this eight-part series set to premiere in May 2012 will follow husband and wife business owners Lisa and Jim Dolan, as they revise and revolutionize the norms of plus-size shopping experiences in their clothing store, Lee Lee’s Valise. Each episode will focus on three different customers as their intimate shopping experience at the store, combined with Lisa’s distinctive clothing line, helps transform their lives."

WHAT I WANT NOW: TRANSITIONAL PIECES TO WEAR NOW AND LATER

I will soon be taking a mini hiatus from apparel shopping to focus on updating my home. Before I do that, I have been thinking about adding more bold pieces to my current fall/winter wardrobe that will add a little more flavor to my everyday looks. Currently I have been lusting after feminine pieces with personality. I'm normally all about classic silhouettes with clean lines but I want to slightly change the direction of my personal style by adding more prints and interesting details.

While cruising the Dorothy Perkins site I cam across two dresses that will keep me looking chic at the office and during happy hour.

STYLE JOURNEY: BLACKOUT

Hey curvy girls all over the world,

Today was a roller coaster ride with the weather. One minute it's unseasonably warm, the next minute it's cloudy and raining, and then all of a sudden the sun pops out. What's up with that? I don't want to complain because it's only mid January and I'm thankful that no snow has fallen. While the weather couldn't make up it's mind neither could I when it came to getting dressed today for work.

I've really been sticking to my limited shopping rule and recreating looks with the clothes that are already in my closet. I've only been buying accessories and interesting pieces to update my wardrobe.

I wanted an easy look to throw on in this complicated weather so I went for a New York City girl look and rocked all black. After pacing for about 5 minutes I reached for my polka dot top from Faith21 and my leather skirt from One Stop Plus for a simple chic New York working girl look.

I topped off my look with my double breasted wool Guess coat and suede ankle boots from Bakers. Since my look was all black, you know I needed a pop of color. I opted to rock out in my new red leather gloves that I scored at Century21. Colorful or patterned gloves are a fantastic and fun way to add spice to a simple winter coat.

CELEBRITY CURVES ON THE SCENE

Hey curvy girls all over the world,
This weekend was full of award shows and some of our favorite curvy and plus size celebrities came out to represent for the girls with a little meat on their bones. Let's take a look at who showed up and showed out.

Over at the Golden Globes resident red carpet walkers Amber Riley and Queen Latifah went for curve hugging gowns. Amber Chose a red ruffled sweetheart neckline dress by Bagdley Mishcka.

Queen Latifah rocked her signature one shoulder gown but went for a silver hue.

Melissa McCarthy also wore a dark green gold trim gown which was not right for her. I would've liked a brighter color.

It looks like Jill Scott likes the combination of furs and gowns because at the BET Honors she rocked a red beaded gown and chocolate fur coat similar to the look she wore for VH1 Diva's Live.

Last but not least we have Jordin Sparks at the Critics Choice Movie awards in an all black sparkly number with ruching at the waist.

STYLE JOURNEY: PROFESSOR CHIC

Hey curvy girls all over the world,
Hope everyone is having a great start to the weekend. This week has been super busy for me. I am going to just chill out at home and catch up on some domestic duties. This is one of the outfits I wore to work this week. I layered my white Jones New York button up shirt under a H&M merino wool v-neck sweater and threw my Calvin Klein blazer over it. I know cobalt blue jeans are unconventional for the office but wearing them with neutral colors in classic styles made it work appropriate for me. I completed my look with a pair of leopard print heels from Bakers shoes and an old Coach briefcase that my mom gave me when I got my first real 9-5 job out of college. It's a classic.

SHOE TRENDS: CAP TOE HEELS

Cap toe heels are back on the scene. Celebrities from Emma Watson to Minka Kelly have all been seen sporting this hard toe heel. The cool thing about cap toe heels is that they can come in the form of color blocking styles which adds extra sass to your look. YSL is the celebrity favorite because they're making such chic and sophisticated styles. We are trying to find every justifiable excuse in the book to drop $800 on a pair.

However, for those of us who would still like to pay the rent and treat ourselves there are waaaaaay more affordable options that look just as cute as the YSL versions.

ALISSA'S HAIR CHRONICLES: NEW YEAR NEW HAIR

Growing out a short hair cut can be quite cumbersome. I was forewarned by a few of my friends that it is an ugly phase and they were not lying. If you've been following me since 2009 then you know the many hairstyles I've gone through with the short hair. While I enjoyed the short cut I began missing the long hair that used reach the middle of my back. So, at the beginning of 2011 I decided to grow my hair out. By June of 2011 my hair finally reached chin length and I got it cut and styled into a bob, which I've been rocking up until now.

As the new year rolled in I was thinking about what I wanted my look to be for the new year. I flipped through numerous issues of Hype Hair and Black Hair magazines to see if any styles inspired me or made my eyebrow raise. My natural hair was too short for man of the styles I liked, so I decided to add a few pieces to get a layered curl look that caught my eye.

I asked around to find out where I could get quality 100% human hair from. A few people pointed me into the direction of Indique Hair Boutique. Indique Hair has been worn by a few of the cast members on VH1's Love & Hip Hop as well as a slew of celebrities like Vanessa Simmons, Cassie, and Laurianne Gibson. Most recently, Indique hair was used in collaboration with Monif C. for the release of Indique;s perfect 10 collection and Monif C's holiday collection photoshoot.

I headed down to their hair studio in Soho on Elisabeth street to see what they had to offer.
The quaint studio was filled with hair pieces that ranged from a number of hair textures and came in lengths from 10 inches to 24inches. They even had clip in hair for do it yourself hair projects. I loved that they also sold a pink polish from Ginger & Liz.

The sales girl was so wonderful in helping me pick out the right color and length for the look I was going for.
Indique hair is 100% human Indian Remy hair that is handpicked for quality. If you've seen Chris Rock's Good Hair, Bad Hair movie, then you know what I mean by 100% Indian hair. Unlike some of the human hair that comes in a pack, Indique's hair is not processed or altered in any way. I was also surprised to find out that they're the only hair company that gets their hair straight from India.

Their hair does not shed and is tangle free. They are so confident in their product that they even have a policy that allows you to bring the hair back (not for a refund) if it sheds and replace it. They had just about every hair texture from curly to straight to wavy and their natural hair colors easily blended in with your hair. I opted for the Pure straight machine wefted hair in a 14 inch which was more like a 16 in length. The hair was soft and silky. The sales girl rung me up, I left with a big smile and headed to my stylist.

My stylist relaxed and conditioned my natural hair and then sewed in a few pieces from Indique's hair. At the end of it all, I came out with a hair style that made me feel and look great.

JASON WU FOR TARGET COLLECTION HITS STORES THIS FEBRUARY

The Jason Wu for Target lookbook has been released and um, we have our sneakers and leggings ready by the door to run to Target and snatch up just about every piece. Every look in this collection is playful, feminine, colorful, and just plain old chic. This is probably one of the most wearable collections that we've ever seen from Targets designer collaborations. This collection consists of everything from brightly colored woven shirts, striped full skirts and dresses to structured totes and clutches.

What we like about Jason's collection is that it's realistic for everyday life. We could see ourselves going to work, school, running errands, having lunch or even sipping on a cocktail in anyone of these looks. The Jason Wu for Target collection hits stores on February 9th- March 6th and the prices range from a whopping $19.99-$49.99.

No the collection does not come in plus but most Target collaborations go up to a size 14. As I've preached numerous times on this blog sometimes you have to look at the cut of the clothes and the fabric it's made with because you never know what might fit. This collection actually looks forgiving with the full skirts and dresses so it's worth a try in our opinion.

In creating this collection designer Jason Wu said, "My goal was not to duplicate anything from my main collection... Instead I designed completely new clothes and accessories that reflect my taste and have a voice of their own."

All we have to say is when will Target find the first plus size designer collaboration. Are there any takers?

Hey curvy girls allover the world,
I know I have been missing in action lately. Work has been keeping me super busy. When you work in finance, the end of the year is pretty important, especially since the market started acting a little funky (for lack of a better word) for the past 6 months. By the time I get home I'm too beat to even conjure up a blog post.

Nevertheless, it's Friday and I have little down time, so, I thought what better way to kick this Friday off than with a celebrity style for curves post. Since the weekend is upon us, I thought Kourtney Kardashian's casual mom chic look would be perfect for plus size curvy girls to get those Saturday errands done in.

Kourtney rocks out in a plaid cut out shoulder top, dark wash skinny jeans and black flats. Simple but cute.

On my search for recreating this look, I found Torrid had a similar plaid cutout top and it's on sale for $24.99. A plaid shirt is an obvious borrow from the boys item but add a cut out shoulder and it instantly becomes feminine. Cut out tops and dresses are a cool and understated sexy way to show off a little skin.

Happy New Years! I hope everyone had a wonderful New Years. I got some much needed rest. I'm kicking off the New Year in good spirits and with a pocketful of dreams I hoping will come true this year.

To embrace the New Year, I decided to rock one of my fave prints which is leopard. I have way too many leopard print dresses and tops. I got this leopard print dress from Dorothy Perkins and I couldn't wait to wear it. The print is so bold that I thought it would be best to keep things simple and rock my suede ankle boots, a pair of oversized dope earrings I got from Forever21, and bracelets from Ashley Stewart.

Continuing with my bright lip declaration, I'm wearing a bold red lip from Cover Girl called "Cherrylicious". One thing I will be doing this first week of 2012 is hitting up my brow lady. They need taming. LOL!

STYLE JOURNEY: TEXTURIZING

Hey curvy girls all over the world,
I love mixing different textures. Especially in the fall and winter. Tweed and leather are a perfect combination of rough and tough. I bought this tweed Gap double breasted jacket last year.

never got a chance to wear it much and thought it would be good to breathe life into it again. Last time, I wore it with a leather skirt and this time, I decided to rock it with my leather pants.

II am trying to get more use out of my white button up shirts so I thought it would look pretty good under the tweed jacket.

What I like about this jacket is the colorful yarn. There's orange, yellow, and purple yarn intertwined in the jacket which makes it pretty easy to wear different shoes with it. As I said yesterday, I want to start embracing bold bright lips for my dark complexion so I decided to wear MAC's "Girl About Town," in full force to pick up the colors in the jacket as well as the blush pink color in my heels.

I know people aren't used to dark skin women wearing bright lips. I've been slammed numerous times for wearing my red lipstick, but I don't care. As long as it looks good to me, then I'm rolling with it.

ALISSA'S 2011 RECAP AND 2012 GOALS

Hey curvy girls all over the world.
It's been one heck of a year. 2011 to me was a learning experience. Some amazing things have happened and lots of lessons were learned. I never thought I would have continued to blog this long. May 2012 will make 3 years that I have been blogging and at least once a month, I say that I am going to quit. As you can see, it never happens.

Truth is, I love writing about fashion and the state of the plus size community. It is my passion to help plus size women embrace their bodies and stop the self hate. I will always continue to do things that make women feel proud and accepting of their size.

Before I start going in on body acceptance, I wanted to take a look back at some of my own personal accomplishments.

I was blessed and honored to be featured in two fashion magazines. One of them being Essence. I could not believe that I was featured in a magazine that I read since I was a teenager and a magazine that represents so much to black women.

Not only was I featured in their November issue with super fine Idris Elba on the cover, I was also selected as one of their top 40 fashion bloggers. Unbelievable!

I was also featured in One Stop Plus's April issue. I was ecstatic to have been chosen to test drive their Spring collection. It was there that I fell in love with the pink blazer and off white leather jacket.

This summer, I got to participate in FFFWeek as one of the Fashion Front team members with some of my favorite blogger's.

And in 2011 I was also chosen to be a Playtex Strap Solutions Ambassador. You know I love me a good bra.

I also got to attend fashion week again for both Fall 2011 and Spring 2012.

as well as interview my first designer which was Farah Angsana backstage at her show. See video below:

I enjoyed every opportunity that came my way and I learned some pretty valuable lessons when it comes to working with brands.

For 2012, the sky is the limit for me. My motto will be, "Go hard or go home." Along with that motto, I will also be embracing this quote from an Anna Wintour interview I saw, which is, "Stay true to your vision and don't worry about what everyone else is doing."

Here are my fashion resolutions

I am hoping to change up my personal style a little bit. Which for me means to incorporate more edgier pieces and probably add a little more black to my wardrobe. In addition, I would like to work on building my personal handbag collection.

Some of you may know, I don't wear a lot of handbags. I have about four now. I definitely want to incorporate more bags into my wardrobe to make a complete outfit. This Celine bag is just perfect.

Beauty Resolutions

I want to embrace more color when it comes to makeup, especially lipsticks. I've been craving bold lips. If you follow me on twitter then you know I am always ranting about the lack of beauty products for dark skin women. So, I will be chronicling my road to finding the best makeup for my complexion. You should also checkout my Tumblr "Miss Chocolate Supreme." I utilize that blog to showcase dark skin women and beauty.

2012 Blog Updates
I don't know if you guys know this or can tell from this blog, I've always wanted a career as a fashion journalist and editor. This is why I make sure I give in depth interviews and try to talk to industry insiders to find out what goes on behind the scenes. I am hoping that 2012 can bring one of these dreams to life or order my steps for them to come true the following year. My favorite fashion mag next to People Style Watch and Instyle is Lucky magazine. I hope to be a contributor for anyone of them spreading the plus size fashion gospel. I'm a person who believes you can be anything you want to be. You just have to work hard for it and that's what I intend to do.

I have been thinking about changing the tag line of Stylish Curves from bridging the gap between straight and plus sizes. This blog has grown so much. I cover a lot of plus size celebrities, fashion news and events, and where to buy articles. So, I want a tag line that reflects that. Any ideas would be helpful.

Along with wanting to be a fashion journalist, I've also wanted to get into TV hosting and being a fashion correspondent. Until someone hires me to do that. I can somewhat live out my dream with Stylish Curves You Tube channel. Yes, I will be bringing back Stylish Curves TV with exclusive interviews with designers and boutiques.

THREE PLUS SIZE CELEBRITIES WHO ROCKED IT IN 2011

As the year comes to an end I can't help but to think about the AMAZING things that some of our favorite plus size celebrities have done.

2011 should have been dubbed the year of Adele. Adele murdered the music scene with her heart felt album about love and heartbreak. Anytime I heard Rolling in the deep my head immediately began to bop side to side and before I knew it, I was singing out loud wondering what people were looking at. Oh, and don't get me started on Someone Like You. I sung that song as if I wrote it myself.

Not only did Adele have an amazing album, it sold over $4 million copies, and it has garnered her six Grammy nominations. Adele also was a favorite cover girl for some of the top fashion and music magazines. She was a cover girl for Rolling Stone and most recently she graced the cover of December's Cosmopolitan. Like Adele's song, rumor has it that she may be the March cover girl of US Vogue. Fingers crossed.

This year Jill Scott came out with her guns blazing. She released a highly anticipated album "Light of The Sun" and rocked stages like no other neo-soul artist could. Much like Adele, Jill graced a myriad of magazine covers and one of them happened to be Billboard's July issue. Although the Grammy's snubbed her Jill's album made huge waves on the charts. We can't wait to see what projects she will be working on for 2012.

Words can't express how hilarious and witty Melissa McCarthy is. If you want to talk about an amazing year for plus size women, you cannot leave out Melissa. Melissa brought the house down in the movie Bridesmaid. She showed the world that fat people like to kiss too with her hit show Mike & Molly and even took home the 2011 Emmy for it. Take that Maura Kelly!

It's that time again. The year is coming to end and it's time to recap which of our favorite curvy and plus size celebrities killed the red carpet with their dashing effortless style. Last year, you guys voted America Ferrera as the best dress curvy/plus celebrity of 2010. America has been absent from the scene this year, but, based on your nominations we've selected 5 of your favorite curvy and plus size celebrities that wowed us with their 2011 style.

Let's take a look at who made the cut:

Amber Riley

First nominee is none other than Miss Amber P. Riley. The style maven consistently won our hearts with her chic on trend styles that were realistic and curve embracing. Amber's 2010 style was all about hot trends and bright colors. For 2011 Riley continued rocking the trends but took a more sophisticated approach to them. At the beginning of this year Amber killed it on the SAG awards red carpet in a black ruched one shoulder floor length gown by Anne Barge.

Throughout the remainder of the year, Amber stayed fly in feminine curve skimming dresses by Donna Morgan and she even branched out a little by rocking a sequin jacket from Arden B. and a bright orange flared dress from UK brand Dorothy Perkins.

Jill Scott

Second on the list is MS. Jill Scott. Jill really turned heads in 2011. Not only with a new scorching hot album but with a new edgier style. Scott lost a few pounds, got a new hair cut, and like Patti Labelle stepped on the scene with a new attitude and we loved it. The singer, poet, actress, and Grammy award winner showed the world how big girls get down.

She hit up red carpets in sexy sleek gowns and performed in trendy styles from ostrich feathered dresses to sequin harem pants. This soul crooner took on 2011 with a fun and fearless style that had us saying, Go Jill, Go Jill!

Queen Latifah

Essence January cover girl Queen Latifah represents for the girls with a little meat on their bones every year. This seasoned Hollywood vet knows what works for her body and manages to remain true to who she is at heart. This year the Queen kept things classy and understated. We saw her rock her usual flowy and body con gowns but for 2011 she tapped more into the menswear trends by rocking fabulous tuxedo suits. Latifah is definitely one of a kind when it comes to her personal style.

One day she could be in a pair of 4 inch heels and the next day, you'll see her in pair of fresh kicks and aviator sunglasses. That's one of the many things we love about her.

Sara Ramirez

2011 put a new curvy stylista on our radar, Grey's Anatomy star Sara Ramirez. We are not used to seeing Sara on the red carpet or being snapped by the paparazzi so we made sure we took notice when she started popping up on some of the hottest red carpets in Hollywood. Like Jill, Sara also unveiled a new svelte curvy figure. Sara's style for 2011 was all about rich jeweled toned chic dresses with very few bells and whistles that showed off her new body. Her 2011 style was simple and classic.

Jordin Sparks

American Idol winner Jordin Sparks was no holds bar this year in body con dresses in dare to go there colors like white and fuchsia..We loved how Jordin's new style embraced her newly toned curvaceous figure. Not only did she have us gawking at her AMAZING curves in those sexy little dresses, we also appreciated some of her more refined looks like her floor length animal print gown.

Jordin definitely put her bid in as a budding style star and we are intrigued to see what she will be donning in 2012.

Christina Hendricks

Mad Men starlet Christina Hendricks just has everyone mesmerized with her curves. The milky skin red head beauty has a style that gives a nod to the 50's. It was very rare that you saw Christina in something that wasn't curve hugging and drool inducing.

This year Christina rocked a myriad of shift dresses, pencil skirts, and cropped pants all in a color palette of warm and rich jewel tones.When it came to red carpet looks, it was all about a high split and plunging necklines.

HOW I TAKE PICTURES WITH MY TRIPOD AND NIKON COOLPIX S570 CAMERA

Hey curvy girls all over the world,
As a fashion blogger, people always ask me who takes my pictures and what type of camera I use.Well, those people will be shocked to know that I use a tripod and Nikon Coolpix S570 90% of the time to take my outfit pictures. Any fashion blogger will tell you how a good camera man or woman is hard to come by. When I first started posting outfit pictures I use to prop my camera up on my dresser or coffee table to take my pictures. Sometimes it worked out well and sometimes it didn't and resulted in my camera falling numerous times. I decided to stop using household furniture to take my pictures and started relying on my friends, family, and even my coworkers, yes, my coworkers. That worked out for awhile until they all basically got tired of doing it, especially since I wasn't asking them to be in the pictures along with me. For awhile, I was left wearing cute outfits and no one to take my pictures.

In Comes The Tripod

I became fed up and tired of begging and pleading for someone to please take my picture and decided to get a tripod. I had in my mind that I would just go to J&R by City Hall and find me a $20 tripod and that would be it. Uh, no! To my surprise, there were quite a few different types of tripods at a variety of prices. I was clueless as to what kind of tripod to get. Did you know that there are tripods that can cost up to $500, and there is such a thing called a monopod? I didn't! Obviously, those are for professional (emphasis on Pro) camera men/women. For a beginner like me, I just wanted something simple.

After looking through tripods that could handle various camera weights and different weather conditions I settled on the Davis & Sanford Travlr tripod. It was able to hold the weight of my small Nikon Coolpix S570, it had adjustable legs so I could take pictures at different height levels, and most importantly it offered a 3-way head pan which allowed me to rotate the camera in different directions. It met all my outfit post needs.

When I first started using the tripod, it felt kind of awkward. I am literally in the middle of the streets of NYC trying to take pictures of myself. People would walk by and ask, are you model?, what are you taking pictures for?, do you want me to help you? Others would just stop and stare and sometimes silly boys would try to jump in my pictures. Only in NYC.

After I got used to the crazy questions, I started seeking out spots where there weren't alot of people and if I did run into a few nosy folks, I would just give them my card and say checkout my blog. Hey, there's nothing wrong with a little self promotion.

To my surprise, I found that using a tripod allowed me to take better quality pictures by

-Reducing camera shake
-Allow use of slower shutter speeds
-Offered room for creative shots

I have a simplistic tripod so it's easier for me to use. For those who are more into photography, there are more advanced tripods. These are just tips from my experience. If you know more by all means feel free to comment on this post.

What To Look For In A Tripod

Weight Control
It's important to have a tripod that can handle the weight of your camera. If your camera is too heavy, then you risk the tripod falling over with your camera on it. If you plan on using your tripod in windy conditions, one that is too light can also be knocked down by the wind. So, make sure you pay attention to how much camera weight the tripod can handle.

3-Way Fluid Head
This allows you to maneuver the camera around the tripod and take different types of shots.

2-Way Tilt Pan
The 2-way tilt pan allows you turn the camera sideways while on the tripod. You can take a long full body shot or tilt the camera for an angular shot or to block too much glare from the sunlight.

A Tripod Bag
Most tripods come with a bag, but some don't. This is helpful if you want to travel with your tripod and to keep it scratch free.

There is so much more to explain about tripods, so I will save that for another post as I am still learning about them myself. However, I promise you the tripod is freedom from those mean looks that friends and family give when you ask them to take your picture. I still long for a time when I can afford a photographer like some of the other top bloggers, but until then, my tripod is just fine.

I've taken my tripod on interviews and though it still feels a bit weird and to be honest a little low budget, I still use it. People do laugh when they see me pull out my little 2 pound camera and set it on the tripod but, it gets the job done.

This is probably my absolute favorite shot with my tripod. My tripod has 3 height levels and to get this shot with me sitting down, I had to put it on the second level and zoom in my camera

My second favorite shot I put the tripod on it's highest level and positioned it on angle so the sunlight could beam down on the side of my face.

Hey curvy grls all over the world,
It's getting cold here in NYC. I am combating the cold weather with my new camel colored coat and faux fur stole. I've been dying for a knee length camel coat and lucked up when I found this double breasted belted coat. It's perfect for work and on the weekends, I rock it with my faux fur stole to jazz it up.
Whenever I buy a simplistic coats, I like to wear accessories adn shoes that makes the coat look a little more special than it is. Which is why I love the fur stole with it. It adds a bit of luxury to the coat. A pair of shoes in a bright color are all I need to amp up the look of the coat.

I'm ready to pair it with a solid top and some colored pumps, but I was hoping you could help me out with some other outfit ideas. I am interested in dipping my toe into the world of pattern mixing, but I don't know how. Thanks in advance."

Thanks for your question Lauren!

Mixing prints can be quite tricky, frustrating, and gutsy. It's one of those trends that seem to look good on everyone else but you. We see it done on the runways and we see celebrities pull it off effortlessly on the red carpet, but trying to mix prints in the real world can be flat out scary. I myself am not a print mixer. However, I do understand and by reading some of my favorite magazines have learned how to do it the right way.

For everyday girls like reader Lauren and myself, I've found that the best and error proof ways to mix prints is by doing the following:

- Keep everything in the same color family

-Mix large prints with small prints

-Use contrasting colors

-Pair mixed prints with solid color shoes and handbags to pull the look to together

*Popular prints to mix are Stripes and florals and Stripes with polka-dots

I do understand that for many, mixing prints is just a big don't, but for those of you who are looking to test the waters and try, I think the tips above will be helpful and for those of you who are visual learners, below is an example of print mixing by using reader Lauren's striped skirt.

As you can see, I kept the look within the same color scheme of black and white. I chose a polka-dot top that wasn't too busy. I didn't want it to compete with the stripes. I pulled the look together with a wide belt, black slingbacks, and to break up all the black, a color clutch did the trick.

Last week I received my final straps solution bra from Playtex. As a strap ambassador for Playtex I’ve enjoyed sharing with you all the marvelous things Playtex is doing to bring you better fitting bras. I personally loved the whole strap solutions idea because I have been a victim of straps falling off my shoulders and bulging side cleavage. It’s nice to know a company like Playtex is not just trying to sell bras but they’re creating solutions to the individual problems we all have when it comes to finding the perfect bra.

Today’s review is on Playtex Secrets Side Smoothing bra. As I stated above, I have been a victim more than twice to having bulging side cleavage. The Playtex Secret Side Smoothing bra combats that very problem.

Here’s what I say:

I’m a big fan of bras that provide lift to my breasts. I have an ample bosom and lift is my main concern. The side smoothing bra didn’t give as high a lift as the previous bra I reviewed but it did give my breasts a rounded shape. The straps like all the other bras stayed on my shoulder so I didn’t have to worry about trying to pull them up. The straps on this bra were a little thinner than the others. I prefer the thicker straps that have a little cushion. I received the zebra print style which made me feel even more confident in my clothes because I knew I was wearing a fun and sexy bra underneath. I specifically wore the bra with a jersey print dress and it gave a smooth look. I didn’t have to worry about if you can see the outline of the cups. The side panels definitely held in my side cleavage and it didn’t make it look bulky either. Seriously, everything was smooth from the front to the side and most important, it didn’t ride up. This just put me in bra heaven.

STYLE JOURNEY: SCHOOL GIRL CHIC

Hey curvy girls all over the world,
Hope everyone is enjoying there Saturday. I for one am just relaxing and catching up on some house work. This week I wore one of my hidden treasures that was found in the back of the closet. I am telling you, when you clean out your closets you find so many things that you wore once or twice and never looked at them again.

That was the case with this striped skirt. I bought this striped skirt last year from the Norma Kamali Walmart line. Some of you may remember when I wore it with the matching Norma Kamali sheer blouse (seen here).

This time I decided to wear it with some of my basic pieces like this Jones New York non-iron white button up shirt and my old faithful cropped double breasted jacket from NY&CO. If you follow me on Twitter and Facebook, then my ankle boots may look familiar to you. These are my new heels from Bakers shoes. As the weather gets cooler I like to wear alot of ankle boots, especially with my skinny jeans and short skirts.

I got the boots on sale at during Cyber Monday. It's been years since I shopped in Bakers but ever since I signed up for Shoeternity I think I have rekindled our relationship. As you get older ad as your checks increase sometimes it's so easy to forget about those stores that kept you fly when you were on a limited budget and Bakers shoes was definitely one of those stores.

I wore my usual silver accessories, hoops and earrings from Forever21, bracelets from Ashley Stewart, and cocktail ring from Avenue.

I love non traditional plus size pants. Lately ASOS Curve has been quite a snooze but these ASOS Curve Lace Pants would be a nice change to the traditional black skinny leg pant.

Hey curvy girls all over the world,
Yesterday was such a beautiful fall day. I woke up feeling great. I had a few places to visit yesterday and opted for a chic blazer look. As I told you guys before I have been making an effort to wear clothes that sit in the back of my closet. Remember earlier this year I wore this blue blazer from Monroe and Main (Seen here), well since then, I have not worn this blazer much. I decided to revive it and create a fall look built around my new beret I purchased at Strawberry's which has awesome accessories.

I wore the blazer over an orange Fashion to Figure draped pocket dress and a statement necklace that was gifted to me by JCPenney. To complete my look I chose to breakout one of my fave pair of suede boots from Banana Republic and the faux fur top handle bag I recently bought from Aldo's. This is slightly a different look for me, which I happen to like. I will admit that I do get nervous when I wear something that I'm not sure about and people stare at me. I never know if they're thinking wow, she looks great or girl, what were you thinking. Nevertheless, I am confident enough in myself to not care too much what people think.

Hey curvy girls allover the world,
For me, weekends are all about cozy sweaters. I personally like to wear my sweaters with heels for an understated sexy look. That was the case today. Lately I've been rummaging through my clothes and figuring out ways to revive some of my old pieces. One of my favorite sweaters was this belted gold sparkling sweater I got from Loft about 4 years ago.

This sweater was my everything. I wore it alot throughout the holiday season whenever I went to lo- key events or little get-to-together's. It has a subtle sparkling shine to it so it gives it a dressy look. However, it's the perfect kind of sweater even to just wear around the house over a tank top and pajama bottoms. To bring it back into my life I thought my leather pants by Anna Scholz from Simply Be would be a nice relaxed pairing. I utilize my Guess red pumps to add a pop of color to my most simplest of outfits and this look was no exception. I kept my accessories gold to play off the color of the sweater.

Also, please note that when I post office looks they may not work for every office. My office policies and rules are different because I work in a small office where in the summertime my boss's come to work in shorts. Some people work in very strict offices where they have to wear stockings and no open toe shoes. Others can go to the office in jeans and a t-shirt. You get my point. What I wear is what works for my office space and I have never been told I was dressed inappropriately.

Now, about today's office look:

I wanted to share with you yesterday's at the office look. I'm such a big fan of tie neck blouses because they are so feminine and old school chic. I found this black and white polka dot top at Forever21 during the summer time. The first time I wore it, I rocked my tweed shorts with it (See it HERE). This top is probably one of the best tops I've bought at Forever21 the fit is perfect.

I originally wanted to wear the top with a red skirt during the summer. I had been dying for a red pencil skirt and I couldn't find one. I saw one on the ASOS Curve site but it sold out in my size when I was ready to buy it. Luckily while cruising the Bloomingdales site last week, I found this red pencil skirt by Love Ady. I added to my shopping bag with the quickness because I didn't want to miss out on it. I love the combination of black, white, and red. It just looks sharp and bold to me. I thought pairing the two together would make for a dashing office look.

I chose to complete my office look with my knee high suede boots from Michael Antonio. I also chose to keep the accessories silver and simple with my over sized hoops from Forever21, a cocktail ring from Avenue, and silver bangles from Ashley Stewart.

FASHION NEWS: MARNI'S COMING TO H&M FOR SPRING 2012

It looks like H&M is on a roll with the designer collaborations. After a much hyped Versace collaboration, H&M has teamed up with Italian brand Marni for a spring 2012 collection. For those of you unfamiliar with Marni, the design house is known for its fun and sometimes crazy prints. Their designs have a vintage lady like flair with womanly silhouettes. You've seen celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow wearing their cute bright colored dresses and Fergie rocking their uber cool printed skinny jeans.

Marni for H&M will offer both men and women's styles. According to Consuelo Castiglioni, Founder and Creative Director, “I wanted to create a true Marni wardrobe by revisiting all our favorite pieces in signature fabrics and prints. As always, I love juxtaposing prints and colors, mixing modern tribal with Bauhaus graphic and adding sporty utilitarian elements,”

"The collection boasts vivid colors and bold prints for women while men can enjoy softened colors and fabrics for a relaxed take on menswear," says Consuelo.

Marni for H&M is set to hit stores March 8, 2011. If I'm not mistaken, this will be around the time H&M launches their online shopping site for the US (Don't quote me). The styles will be available in store as well as online.

It looks like some of our favorite plus size and curvy celebs were performing and working red carpets last week. Let's take a look at who worked it and who needed to head back to the drawing board.

First up is Jill Scott who wore a LBD with over the knee boots and topped her look off with a black fedora while performing at the Borgata in Atlantic City

Next we have Miss Jordin Sparks who also donned a LBD while working the red carpet at a Winter in Venice event. I must say that Jordin is working the heck out of this dress with her curves.

Queen Latifah was spotted performing at a Black Eyed Peas concert in one of her signature tuxedo blazers with a black tank top, leggings, and biker boots. I love the star necklace she is wearing.
